GENERAL:
PBIS emphasizes the establishment of organizational supports or systems
that give school personnel capacity to use effective interventions accurately
and successfully at the school, district, and state levels. These supports
include (a) team-based leadership, (b) data-based decision-making, (c)
continuous monitoring of student behavior, (d) regular universal screening,
and (e) effective on-going professional development. PBIS is a framework
PURPOSE:
The EIF is an alternative educational setting and is designed primarily for
students who are experiencing challenges abiding by school rules and board
policies. The EIF will provide students with a positive but firm behavioral
setting in order to guide students towards their academic and social
success.
V.
PROCEDURES:
1. Students are referred by school personnel to the school administrator.
School personnel must indicate prior steps/interventions taken to
address the behavior at their level.
Students must be dealt with in
accordance with the current board and school policies.
2. Individualized program goals will be developed by an Intervention Team,
which may consist of an administrator, teacher, counselor, school social
worker, and/or other support personnel. If the student does not meet
his/her goals, the students placement may be extended.
3. Placement in the EIF(Applicable for Tier III students who commit a
Level II or III offense that warrants suspension):
a. 1st placement: 1 5 days
b. 2nd placement: 3 15 days*

*If a student meets his/her program goals, the student may return to
his/her regular schedule. The student must serve a minimum of
three days.
c. 3rd placement: In the event a student is referred to the EIF more than
twice, a determination must be made by the Intervention Team
whether to develop any long term plans to address the students
behavioral or social issues. This may result in an inter-disciplinary
approach, which may include a check-in, check-out process, and a
Behavior Plan for the student. The Parent/Guardian of this student
must be included in this process.
4. The maximum days for placement for any student in the EIF is 20 days
per semester for only Level III offenses except for the following:
a. Use/Poss./Distribution of Tobacco Products
b. Use/Poss./Distribution of Alcohol Products
c. Terroristic Conduct

5. Teachers must submit the students work to the EIF teacher within 24
hours of the students placement in EIF. The work sent by teachers must
be literacy-based for all subject areas. Upon completion of assignments,
the EIF teacher will return them to the assigned content teacher for
grading.
6. The EIF teacher shall have alternate student work for students until the
assigned content teacher provides student work.
7. Grades for students placed in the EIF Program are still the
responsibility of the regularly assigned classroom teacher.
However in cases where an EIF student is in the program for 15 or
more days, the EIF teacher may provide an exiting grade for
students. When students return from EIF, their assigned content
teacher will take the exiting grade, (IF APPLICABLE) and calculate a
prorated average of their class grade for the respective evaluation
period and the EIF grade which will be the students current grade
for the evaluation period.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The EIF is staffed with at least one certificated teacher and a Teaching
assistant or Support Staff.
2. The school Pupil/Personnel Administrator or other school administrator
(when appropriate,) processes all referrals for the EIF.
3. The Homebase Teacher, EIF Teacher, and Counselor monitors student
progress via an in-house monitoring form/system.
4. The Intervention Team (reference part V. Proceedures, item 10,)
will complete a CST or 504 in the event the Inter-disciplinary
Team (Intervention Team) determines more intensive intervention
actions or resources are needed such as working with a Social
Worker to review student records, determine risk factors,
and
coordinate familial supports with outside agencies.
5. The Curriculum Coach must work with student to prepare an academic
plan for success with the students in the EIF program and when they
return to the mainstream student body.

VIII. PENALTY: Failure to adhere to this SOP may result in disciplinary action in
accordance with the
DOE Personnel Rules & Regulations.
