What is truly better?
Communism versus Capitalism has been a highly debated topic all over the world. Even
today where social inequality is vast and effects many people. Communism is the idea that
everyone is equal in terms of their belongings and there is no hierarchy. Capitalism on the other
hand is the basic principle of survival of the fittest. Although it communism tries to eliminate
social inequality, this ideology would be incompatible with todays society because it eliminates
the want to work hard and hinders societys overall advancement.
In a communistic society, people often work in factories, farms, and other similar places
to keep civilization alive. The majority of the people get the same wages and benefits. The larger
end of human civilization is programed in such a way where we strive to do better to move up in
a job. This idea is based upon a want to be better than everyone else, also known as The Law of
Competition. In the article The gospel of wealth the author, Andrew Carnegie states for it is to
this law that we ow our wonderful material development, which brings improved conditions in
its train (487). Carnegie is saying that the want for competition and the want to strive has the
effect of improving things as time goes on. When society is stuck in a situation of poverty and
low wages with no chance to move up they do not work hard, and as a result society does not
advance. When a member of a communist country goes to work they have no reason to do their
best. For example take Robert, he is living in a communist country and goes to work every day at

the same factory, in his same position know that he will never advance in the company. If Robert
does his job very well and puts a lot of effort, but gets the same pay even if he slacks off, he
doesnt really have a reason to do well. This in turn demolishes the want to work resulting in
poor craft quality. Not only does a communist country remove a feeling of competition in
society, but it also hinders societys advancement.
Communistic countries are often set for particular things and are not exactly prepared for
radical and unordinary things. In todays society there are so many new problems everyone is
facing that there is no set answer for all the problems. In the article The Communist Manifesto
the author Carl Marx states The communist fight for the attainment of the immediate aims for
the enforcement of the momentary interest of the working class (Marx 475). I interpreted this as
if Marx is saying that the communists society is only prepared for momentary dilemmas and not
something out of the blue. This problem is detrimental for societys advancement and growth
because if they are not prepared, then when a problem arises they will not be able to overcome it.
For examples the United States is one of the worlds superpowers because of Capitalism. Yes
China is a superpower as well, but the United States being a capitalistic country has more options
and is prepared better for the future then any communist country. This means that capitalism
allows society to take a problem of their own and be more powerful and more in control then
they ever thought was possible.
In conclusion communism is a system of equality that gives the same benefits and pay to
every worker regardless of any qualities or traits they carry. On the flip side, capitalism is the
ideology of surviving on your own and building up your own fortune. The reason being that
capitalism is far superior is because communism is not compatible with the United States living
style because it eliminates hard work and hinders the advancement of society. Capitalism in the

growing world today is the most suitable way to base a country upon. If this idea had not been
implemented the American Dream as we know it would be nonexistent today.
