QUESTION

What type of soil will affect a

bean sprouts growth?

HYPOTHESIS
If I use different soils for each bean sprout
then the bean sprout with the backyard
soil will grow better because the plants
and bugs that die in the backyard will
decompose giving more nutrition to the
plants.

MATERIALS
In this experiment I used :
342 mung beans
342 small cups or pots
About 1 gallons of water
About 1 pound of backyard soil
About 1 pound of sand
About 1 pound of peat moss

PROCEDURE
1) Step 1. Get 38 of the cup/pots and put one cup of peat
moss in each of them
2) Get another set of 38 cup/pots and put one cup of
backyard soil in all 38
3) Now get the last set of 38 and put one cup of sand in
all of them
4) Put one mung bean seed in all 114 cups
5) Follow steps 1-4 two more times
6) Every day water the beans 1/2 tablespoon
7) Place pots in sunlight for at least 4 hours every day

DATA ANALYSIS
In my data in the chart shows the growth in inches of the
mung bean plant. Some trends I see in my data is that for
each backyard its average height is around 3.0. And the
average height for the pat moss is all around 2.0. But there
was no growth in any of the mung beans planted in the
sand.

ABSTRACT
My science fair my testable question was What type of
soil will affect a bean sprouts growth?. My hypothesis was
If I use different soils for each bean sprout then the bean
sprout with the backyard soil will grow better because the
plants and bugs that die in the backyard will decompose
giving more nutrition to the soil and plants.. And at the
end of the experiment the backyard soil is the best.

CONCLUSION
My experiment took about two weeks and in the end my
hypothesis was correct, out of all three soils the backyard
soil was the best, the second best out of the three soils
was the peat moss, but the beans didnt grow at all in the
sand.

Fun fact: Mung beans can grow with or without soil, this
process is called hydroponics.
