Sterilized vs Not

Sterilized
A-6-7

Question

Will sterilized fertilizer left out in the sun make the germination process
go faster than regular fertilizer?

Hypothesis

My hypothesis is that the regular fertilizer will speed up the germination

process because the sun might evaporate or drain out some of the
important chemicals the fertilizer might need to make the seed grow
then the seed might or might not grow.

Rational

The reason I am doing this project is because if the sterilized fertilizer

does make the plant grow faster farmers might be able to grow plants
and crops faster to produce more food.

Materials
1.

60 pots

2.

Columbine seeds (60)

3.

Miracle Grow fertilizer

4.

Black garbage bags

5.

Potting soil

6.

A book

7.

Water

Procedures

1.Gather Materials
2.Take 1 cup Miracle Grow fertilizer and pour into a
black plastic bag
3.Leave fertilizer out in the sun for 24 hours
4.While waiting for the fertilizer put soil in 60 pots
5.Put one seed in each pot
6.After 24 hours take teaspoon of the fertilizer
then put it in each pot
7.Water the seeds every day
8.Record the height of each plant every day

Data analysis

After looking at my research I found out that my experiment did not

work because there were no results after ten days.

Conclusion

My conclusion is that my project did not work because my seeds did not
germinate within ten days. So either the chemicals in the fertilizer
were bad or the seeds were dead when I bought them.
