Final Reflection
Project 1: Initial Extended Inquiry
Can you specifically show me how this assignment has enhanced your use of technology
to create and write in multiple genres?
-I have written research papers before, however I am new to UNCC. This class
has really helped me to learn how to use and understand the resources available to me
here. I had never used UNCCs databases before and I used the library to my advantage
for this paper.
How about your research skills and avoiding plagiarism?
-Back in high school, plagiarism was drilled into me. Every paper I write I get
better and better at researching and using that research in my papers. In previous papers, I
would almost never use a direct quote from a source, simply because I had no idea how to
cite it. But I have used quotes in quite a few times in my Extended Inquiry, which shows
how I have grown as a writer.
How about your critical thinking skills?
-This project has helped me improve my critical thinking skills by challenging me
to think about the world from different perspectives. While writing my Extended Inquiry
I was forced to view life from the perspective of Chris, as well as others who are affected
by social isolation.

What about reflecting on your writing and choices you made?
-I hate re-reading my own writing. It is a huge flaw in my writing process and it
has always bothered me. However this project, and honestly this class, forced me to
reflect on my writing and why I made the choices I made. That alone has helped me grow
as a writer.

Project 2: Annotated Bibliography

How did this project enhance your research skills?
-Before this class, I had never written an annotated bibliography before. Only
regular works cited pages before. This projected introduced me to the process of writing
an annotated bibliography, which I will use in other papers I will write.
Project 3: Multi-Modal Project
The class in general: What do you think you should get (as a grade)? How do you think
the class went? Did you learn anything? How was your house group?
-I think that I should get a B in this class. While I do not deserve an A, I believe I
meet the requirements for a B. I think this class went well and helped me to develop my
skills as a writer. I learned that I still can improve my writing skills and developed my
research skills as well. I really liked my house group. They were friendly and helpful.
Discussions/Journals/Responses to Readings: respond to the usefulness, timeliness,
responses you got from others, and anything else.
-I got quite a few responses to my posts in our discussions and journals. I thought
a lot of them were very helpful and many people had the same ideas I did about a topic.
That was a little frustrating, to be advised on something I was thinking about doing

Johnson 3
anyway, but other wise most contributions to my journals, discussions, and reading
responses were helpful.
Which of the individual claims you make in the projects are the strongest/weakest?
-I think that the strongest claim I made in the projects was that isolation affects
ones mental health. While the weakest claim I made was that Chris McCandles isolation
was of his own doing. The evidence was not as well organized as I could have made it
and his family had an affect on how Chris developed his thoughts about people.
Is there a piece that was more important to you any why?
- I think the most important piece for me was the effects that society has on a
persons health and quality of life. I have been having my own personal struggles recently
and I though that I could relate to the topic.
Is there a piece that was more difficult for you and why?
-Honestly the same reasoning applies here. It was difficult for me to write about a
topic I am so close to and that is what made it so difficult.
If you think you have learned to make connections between texts or learned to apply
ideas from texts into your life, show me where.
-I think that how I have learned to make connections between texts and learned to
apply them to my life can been seen mostly in my journals and in my topic. I specifically
picked a topic for my project that I was personally close to. That is what made the project
so difficult for me and challenged me as a writer.
Reflect on the processes that you went through with each major piece.
-This project had the longest organization process Ive experienced. The proposal
was easy for me but after that I really struggled with how to organize my Extended

Johnson 4
Inquiry. In hindsight, I am glad we spent so much time preparing because it gave me the
chance to plan my project. The process of researching for the annotated bibliography was
more difficult than I thought it would be. It altered the way I usually organize my papers.
I have a bad habit of doing the woks cited page last and that usually messes up my
citations. But this time I had the bibliography finished first which help to jumpstart the
writing process. The multi-modal process was quicker and I wish I had had more time to
plan out what I wanted to do with the particular project.
Did you discover anything new/interesting/insightful?
-I did discover some new things about my writing process that I can improve. I
also discovered that I have more in common with Chris McCandles than I originally
thought. Writing is a process that is always growing and improving. I think this class
helped me move one step closer to being a better writer.
Much of this class rests on the assumption that you are self-motivated to participate, read,
ask questions, help your classmates, can (and willing) to navigate Moodle and do what
you need to do in order to succeed in the class. Although I have my own view of who
participates and who doesnt, I would like your input here about yourself.
- As I said in my midterm reflection, I am not good at speaking out in class.
However, during group work I am vocal about what I think should be done. Its not that I
dont participate; I just participate in different ways.
You registered for the class did you do all you could to succeed?
-While I did have some personal difficulties this semester (illness and a death in
the family), I believe I did my best to succeed in this class.
