1- Fertile Crescent (pg. 16) A region shaped like
a crescent and it has very fertile soil. Mainly
Egyptians lived there but was located in
Egypt, Turkey, Iran, and Iraq. Near the Fertile
Crescent was one of the first cultural hearths.
2-Chicha (pg. 22) an Incan golden cup filled
with beer, which is located in modern day
Peru and the cup was made for giving
offerings to the Gods. They did this to make
sure they didnt seem ungrateful.
3-Storehouses (pg. 20) An Egyptian area(s)
where they kept their valuables, and theyre
kept by the community full. They soon turned
into temples.
4-Uruk (pg. 26) A city by the Fertile Crescent
and its population was 50,000. It became an
example of civilization.
5-Sumer (pg. 21) A region in Mesopotamia and
its where writing began. The Sumerians
began reading and writing and influenced
other towns and cities to begin this as well.

6-Epic of Gilgamesh (pg. 27) Its the 1st literary


work and originated in Mesopotamia. Its
significant because it started books
7-Ziggurat (pg.30) An Egyptian step platform
and it was a place to worship their God. They
did this so they wouldnt appear spoiled and
it also improved worship.
8-Mesopotamian city-states (pg. 11) Started a
government, it was a city that operated like a
state.
9-Cuneiform (pg.32) Were the 1st indentations
of general writing, started by Egyptians. It
was created to keep track of who all bought
beer.
10- Ashurnasipal II (pg. 38) A King of Assyria,
hes known as the king who held one of the
best feasts. It went on for days (10 days)
11- Dionysius (pg. 44) Egyptian God of Wine,
he gave wine to everyone in Egypt and sadly
made it less exotic.
12- Platos Republic (pg. 53) A book written by
a philosopher of Egypt, in this book he
explained why a republic is better than a
democracy.
13- Roman Villas (pg. 53) A place where the
wealthy would go and many important
people were usually found there.
14- Battle of Tours (pg.68) Arab troops were
defeated by Charles Martel and halted trade.

15- Charles Martel (pg. 68) A prince of Frankish


Kingdoms and defeated the Arabs, it was a
turning point in history, it took place in
central France.
16- Cordoba (pg. 72) In Arab (modern day
Spain) and was known as the most refined
city because it was high in technology.
17- Aqua Vitae (pg. 75) Latin for water of life
it was used by the Europeans and Latin. It
was known for having healing powers.
18- Dashee/ Bizy (pg. 80) Large quantities the
British gave African leaders. It was a gift and
in return they got African slaves, if the British
didnt bring this they most like left emptyhanded.
19- Molasses Act of 1773 (pg. 88) England cut
the Colonies from making rum because they
bought the materials from the French instead
of England. The colonies revolted because of
this.
20- Sugar Act (pg. 89) A tax on sugar put in
place by England on the colonies, doing this
kept them from making molasses which
made rum. This and many other acts lead to
the Colonies wanting independence.
21- Sufi Islam (pg. 102) An association created
by the Sufi and Yemeni. It was created to
keep the discovery of coffee a secret and was
used to stay awake at late night ceremonies.

22- Dutch East India (pg. 79) A coffee


plantation created by the Dutch and was
created so that they could make their own
coffee, they also gave it to others.
23- Principia (pg. 118) A philosophers book by
Isaac Newton. It paved the way for scientist
today because it gave the concept of gravity.
24- Wealth of Nations (pg. 120) A book by
Adam Smith and it helped people trade
easier and the government encouraged
trade.
25- Voltaire (pg. 121) A French philosopher that
said every man deserves the pursuit of
happiness. He also saw how corrupt the
French and English government were, the
book he came out with was quickly banned.
26- Encyclopedie (pg. 120) A book by Denis
Diderot and said every man has equal rights
and the book was banned by the French
government.
27- Changan (pg. 129) A city in China (modern
day Xiam), the city held 2 million people,
was known for being a cultural magnet. They
were known for taking in different cultures.
28- LuYu (pg. 130) A Taoist poet who wrote
about the process of tea-making. He wrote
The Classic of Tea during the Tang Dynasty.
29- Celestial Empire Another name for China
(means Empire of Heaven), given by

Westerners. They were called this because


they had a lot of Tea and other goods.
30- Richard Arkwright (pg. 143) A British
inventor, who created the spinning frame
and because of his invention he made Britain
the first Industrial nation.
31- Tea Act of 1773 (pg. 147) The British were
upset that the Americas were buying tea
from China so they put a tax on tea.
32- LinTze- Su (pg. 151) A Chinese
commissioner who was ordered by the
emperor of China to stop the trading of
goods, once there he ordered them to halt,
they continued so he sent the area to flame
ruining a years worth of Tea. Although he
destroyed the Tea they continued selling and
then he arrested them whether British or
Chinese.
33- Indian Mutiny (pg. 157) The United
Kingdom and India had a dispute the Indian
government gave UK the India Trade and the
Indians were upset so they started a revolt.
