Multi-Genre Reflection
UWRT 1103-011

Reflection
The audience for my two genres, a twitter and blog page, are
high school students. My research was done primarily on the nutrition
of students in college; however, I wanted to address the younger
population in order to inform them beforehand. My purpose is to
encourage more teens to become aware of how important ones
nutrition is, especially in college with the hopes that the average
number of people who are obese will decrease over time.
I chose to create a twitter page and a blog page because
students use the Internet and social media as a daily source.
Therefore, I could not imagine a better way to address an online
resource. In an article Tsang states, A 2002 study found that 73
percent of college students use the Internet to locate health
information. Instead of going to a local health care provider, students
tend to use the Internet to find the best diet, the healthiest foods, and
the best workouts one can do for the best health.
Moreover, I most heavily relied on linguistic, visual, and spatial
mode to communicate to my audience of high school students. There
was a lot of thought to the color, layout, arrangement and organization
of both my blog and twitter page as well as the development of each
word that makes up each genre. I should be able to successfully appeal

to my audience because I included each of Aristotles appeals.

Logically, I was able to reason with my audience through the text
provided on my twitter and blog page. Emotionally, students can relate
to me on a personal level through each blog post and by using facts
and information from multiple credited sources makes me one of
credibility.
I used the majority of my sources throughout my multi-genre
project, although most of my information comes mainly from three of
them. The college Students Perception of Healthful Eating stated,
The importance of eating healthfully is not only to maintain ones
appearance or boost self-esteem but also to prevent diseases
associated with obesity and create a better quality of life for those who
choose to live healthfully (Tsang). This was a large piece of
information necessary to my research because most people believe
that individuals only eat healthy to obtain a small physique instead of
knowing that there are actually harmful, affects to a life filled with poor
nutrition. I used this material in one of my blog posts to hopefully
convey a message to all. Further, Observed sex differences in fastfood consumption and nutrition self-assessments and beliefs of college
students expresses, These behaviors are of concern to health
professionals because dietary knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors that
are developed and exhibited during college may carry over into
adulthood and influence future health status (Morse & Driskell).

Specifically, I used this as a tweet for my twitter page. I believe it is

one of the most important statements for my entire project because
the actions of high school and college students now are going to carry
on with them into the future. If they are already making poor decisions
with their nutrition and health, the risks are going to increase and
eventually there will be serious side effects. In The Diets of College
Students the author states, Students who take the time to acquaint
themselves with the various foods available around campus, and who
strive for nutritional balance, may find their academic performance
improves along with their physical health (Rodriquez). That is to say,
if one chooses to eat healthy and workout out in some way on a daily
or weekly basis their physical characteristics are going to change in a
positive way and they will most likely have a much clearer mindset,
which will result in better grades and alertness in class.
It is so important that students see and understand my message
because they are our future. They need to be nutritious in order to live
out healthy lifestyles and impact our nation in a positive way. If they
begin making smarter choices now, then they will be able to live out a
longer life, and make a difference in our world. With this intention, I
feel as though my genre pieces will be successful in changing the ways
that high school and college students approach their nutrition from
now on.
