Introduction (10 minutes)
There will be a warm-up assignment projected onto the Promethean Board, via laptop. Warm-ups are a
daily occurrence for the students, and a part of their classroom routine. The warm up for today will be for
students to practice and prepare to present.
Transition (2 minutes)
Students and parents will be reminded of the role of the audience: to remain quiet, turn off cellphones, and
listen intently. Each student will make a list with their peers names, and write down the theme they think
their classmate is conveying. Students and parents may welcome themselves to donuts and juice.
Procedure (70 minutes)
Students will present their poems and/or songs. Each student will present for 3 minutes.

Modified 12/13

Students and parents will give themselves a round of applause. Students and parents will be asked to
dispose of their napkins and any other trash.
Closure (6 minutes)
Students will vote on their favorite poem and/or song. Students cannot vote for themselves. Parents cannot
vote at all.
Modifications
ELL students will be given individualized attention as needed. ELL students will have access to electronic
and hard copy translators. ELL students do not have to perform if they do not want to.
GT students may look for and include an interesting visual with the presentation of their poem and/or song.
Students with vision impairments will be seated in the front row, in order to see the days
agenda/objectives.
Time: 90 minutes
Reflections
Students may take longer on presenting than estimated. I will ensure that all students keep to a strict time
limit with a timer. This may upset some parents, but a time limit is in fairness to all students. The ultimate
goal of this lesson is to make students comfortable with presenting, and create a classroom community.
