Introduction
Theproblemourteamwouldliketoidentifyisfindingandtrainingqualifiedandcommittedstaff
membersformaintenanceteamsworkinginWorthingtonSpecialtyProcessing.Wewouldliketo
focusoninternalrecruitingforfindingnewmembersoftheseteamsaswefeelthisisamore
reliablemethodofkeepingthestaffqualified.Wewouldliketofindthebestmethodtohireand
trainnewstaffmembersinordertokeeptheteamsrunningwell.Ifwecanhelpimprovethe
hiringandtrainingprocessnowforWorthingtonSpecialtyProcessingitwillmakeitamore
hasslefreeprocessinthefutureandkeepingthestafffullwillmaketheoverallproductivity
moreproficient.

ThePlantEngineerholdsprimaryresponsibilityandauthorityinrunningthemaintenance
department.Heisresponsibleforthedirectionanddevelopmentofthedepartmentandhis
supportofthisproposalisessential.WhilethePlantEngineergenerallymanagesthedepartment
withacertainamountofautonomythePlantManagerultimatelyholdsauthorityoverthe
Engineer.Thetwoareaswherehisauthoritywouldmostdirectlyaffecttheimplementationof
thisproposalwouldbeheadcountandfinancialresources.

Secondary:MaintenancePlannerandSeniorMaintenanceTechnicians
TheMaintenancePlannerhasschedulingandcoordinationresponsibilities.Thesenior
maintenancetechniciansareoftenleadingandassistingtheircrewsthroughoutthedayswork.A
betterstaffed,bettertraineddepartmentwouldbeofgreatadvantagetoboth.Inadditionthe
seniortechnicianswillmostlikelybecalledupontoparticipateintheidentifying,mentoring,and
trainingofnewrecruits.Thisproposaldirectlyimpactsthem.

Purpose
Askilled,welltrained,adequatelystaffedgroupofmaintenancetechniciansisabsolutely
essentialtothesuccessfuloperationofanyindustrialfacility.Buildingawellrounded,cohesive
teamofmaintenancetechniciansisnotaneasytasknoronethatcanbeaccomplishedquickly.
Ignoringthisproblemcanonlyresultinfurtherdeteriorationofthedepartmentthroughattrition.
Atthatpointthedepartmentwillbeinreactionmodetherebymakingthehiringprocessthat
muchmoredifficult,increasingtheoddsofhiringapoorfitforthecompany.Addressingthe
deficienciesinthecurrentsystemofrecruiting,training,anddevelopmentofmaintenance
technicianswillresultin:

departmentseeingwhathasandhasnotworkedinthepastasitrelatestorecruiting,
training,andteambuilding.

2. AnotherimportantresourcearetheemployeesatWSP.Consultingwiththemand
possiblesurveyswillgiveimportantfeedbackandinsightintosolvingtheseissues.These

Theprojectteamwillbecollaborativelydraftingdocumentsusinggoogledocs.Thiswill
enablebothteammemberstoauthorandeditdocumentsaswellasbeabletomonitor
progressinrealtime.Inadditionwewillbeinclosecontactviatexttoaddressanyissues
aswell.

BeingthatJeffhasfirsthandaccesstoWSP,hewillactastheleaderandhandlethe
researchinternaltotheorganization.Valentinawillconductexternalresearch.BothJeff
andValentinawillcontributetotheauthorshipandeditingofdocuments.
Accountability
Theteamconsistingofonlytwomembersmakeshandlingresponsibilityandquality
mucheasier.Theworkgetsreviewedandeditedaswefeelnecessarysincewecanboth
seechangesthataremadetothedocumentinrealtime.Workofpoorqualityandorlack
ofworkbeingcompletedwillresultinapoorgradeforthegroupsoitwillbeprevented
bykeepingstrictdeadlinesforworkbeforetheactualduedatessowecanmakesure
everythingisgettingcompletedwell.Ourabilitytoeasilyseewhatwearedoingand
communicatethroughtextandemailallowsustomakesurewearesatisfiedandonthe
samepagewiththeworkwearedoingtogether.
