A FANTASTIC CHRISTMAS CONCERT

IN BUNSCOIL MHUIRE!
After Halloween we started
practicing for our Christmas
concert Ralph the Reindeer.
We had lots of songs to learn
but they were really catchy and
fun so we learnt them really
quickly. It was exciting waiting
to see would we be an elf or a
reindeer and we couldnt wait
until it was time for all our
mams, dads and families to
come and see us on the stage.
We were all a bit nervous when
we went on stage in front of an
audience for the first time but
we think that we looked really

A FEW WORDS FROM MR. ONEILL

Dear Parents/Guardians,

T an Nollaig buailte linn! Christmas is near. It is a magical time

of the year when everyone, especially all the children and those
that are young at heart can begin
to enjoy and celebrate the festive season and all that it has to
offer. It is a family time and it is
a celebration of the birth of baby Jesus. I wish everyone in the
school community a Happy and
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. I wish to thank
all the parents/guardians for all
of their support throughout
2015.
All of us here in school are still
on a high after all of the excellent Christmas concerts here at
the school. An inordinate amount
of work was involved in all of the
productions. The dedication of all
of the school staff to go the extra mile and to pull together is
very much appreciated. Also the
hard work and practice by all of
the boys and girls certainly paid
dividends as they were brilliant!
Maith sibh ar fad. There certainly is no shortage of talent in Bunscoil Mhuire!

Also thank you to Halina, Tim

and Tom for all of the hard work
in keeping the school so clean for
us all and for painting the hall
and stage in time for the performances. We also got a new backdrop for the stage and updated
the lights just in time for our
fantastic concert.
A big thank you to Carmel in the
very busy office, she certainly
keeps the school running like
clockwork!

I want to welcome the new Board

of Management and to thank
most sincerely the outgoing
Board for all of their hard work
on behalf of the school and our
school community.
School assemblies are now in full
swing and well done to all the
boys and girls and all the teachers in 6th, 5th and 4th class for
organising the first three assemblies of the year. They have been
a great success and we are delighted to give out the certificates for Gaeilgeoir na Mosa,
Star of the Month, Maths Problem of the Month and many others. We even learned what the

fox said at one of the assemblies!

We wish to congratulate two of
our teachers, Ms. Hickey and Ms.
Fitzgerald on the birth of their
new babies and also Ms. N Shiochr on the birth of her baby
boy and we wish Mire OBrien
the very best of luck with her
maternity leave.

A big congratulations to our

cross country runners and all the
success they achieved in Conna,
in Santry, Co. Dublin and in Dungarvan. Amazing girls! Well done!
Also congratulations to the
school choir who performed
beautifully at the Parish Church
recently.
Gum gach rath oraibh le linn

a Merry Christmas. Please be
careful in the dark evenings and
wear high visibility vests and
light up if you are out and come
back to us safe and sound on the

CHRISTMAS COLOURING COMPETITION

Last month, we were very busy colouring pictures of baubles and

Christmas trees for a special colouring competition being run by Youghal
Chamber of Commerce. We worked
very hard on our pictures as we knew
that winners of the colouring competition would be in with a chance of
turning on the Christmas lights in
Youghal with Santa Claus! We were
so excited when our teacher told us

VOLUME 10, ISSUE 2

that all of the children in our class

had been chosen as winners in the
colouring competition. On Saturday
28th November, we went to Barry's
Lane for the turning on of the lights.
We didn't get to pull the special
lever with Santa but we still had lots
of fun and can't wait to use the
swimming passes for Aura that we
won. Our winning entries are hanging
up in the Rivergate Mall so be sure

to stop by and have a look at them

when you're passing!

PRICKLY HAY BY SENIOR INFANTS

This year senior infants performed

Prickly Hay for the Christmas Concert.
It was a celebration about baby Jesus.
The main characters were Sam and The
Shrew. Rory played Sam and Naomi
made a great Shrew. We practiced our
lines and our songs for weeks before the
show. I was the angel Gabriel. I wore a
white dress with wings and a halo on my
head. I loved when the shrew jumped
out and frightened Sam. My favourite
song in the play was Christmas is for you
and I loved dancing on the stage. It was
easy. I really loved being in Prickly Hay.

The name of our concert was Prickly

Hay! We were very excited about it.
It was about a stable boy called
Sam and he had a friend called The
Shrew. It was about Jesus being
born. Mary and Joseph were his parents. Sarah Desmond played Mary
and Rocco played Joseph. We practiced a lot for it. I was a narrator.
And my line was Meanwhile outside
the stable the streets were crowded. I wore a shirt and a pair of
jeans. My favourite song was The
Stable Hoedown.

My name is Rory Kelly. I am six

years old. I thought our play was
very nice and funny. I was Sam the
stable boy. I had to sweep out the
old hay and bring in the new. My
prop was a sweeping brush. I had a
radio microphone and I learned lots
of lines. My favourite part of the
play was when we got to dance
around in Christmas is for
you (song). I
loved acting with
the shrew. We
had a great time.

SIXTH CLASS RETREAT TO SCALA

On the 4th of November we went on

our Confirmation Retreat. We lined up
at 8:50 a.m. and we left around 9:05
a.m.. We arrived there around 10:00
a.m.. When we got off the bus we saw
a castle which was an observatory. We
walked up a narrow road. On the side
we saw a sign that said SCALA Retreat. We went into a small hall and
there were seats for all of us. We sat
there and we were talking to our

friends for a bit. We got name labels

to write our names on. After a while a
lady called Naomi came in and we
played a game called fruit salad. Then
we watched a video called Gods Love
Letter. When that was over we had
our lunch. As soon as we came back we
were split up and each group went into
different rooms and we played games
and did activities about the Holy Spirit and its gifts. When that finished we

went into the main hall and had a prayer service. After that we went back to
school. It was a relaxing and fun time.
Everyone enjoyed it.

SIMON COMMUNITY FOOD APPEAL

All of us at Bunscoil Mhuire are

helping the homeless people in Cork.
We are collecting food, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels and
many other things for them. I think
that would make them feel happy
and joyful to get food from Bunscoil
Mhuire. It must be so hard to be
homeless, especially at Christmas
because most people are with their
families and relations. They get to-

gether and have big dinners with

turkey and pudding. People who are
homeless dont have Christmas
trees, fires or get presents. They
dont have electric blankets or anything to warm their beds, they dont
even have beds really. I wish them a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year. I hope they find homes and
maybe next Christmas have a house
to put their tree up in and be warm.

THE SIX FRIENDS BY AMY ATKINSON

Once there were two girls
called Amy and Nadia. They
were the best of friends.
They would play all day and
all night, but one night that
would all change
It all started on what they
thought was a normal Saturday night; They were in the
middle of a game of chase.
They were playing with Amys
older sister Ellie and Nadias
younger brother Sean. They
were about two hours into
the game when Sean
screamed for help. When the
others turned around they
could see exactly why Sean
screamed. They saw a monster about 80ft tall! The
monster was running as if it
was playing chase with them.
Suddenly another monster
came up behind it and
roared. The monster jumped
with fright. It fell on the
floor and laughed, both of
them ended up on the floor

laughing their heads off.

The children just stood

there till Ellie gave the others a look and coughed. The
monsters immediately
stopped laughing and stood
up while brushing themselves
off.
One introduced itself, Hi,
Im James P. Sullivan, but my
friends call me Sulley and
this is Mike Wazowski but
we just call him Mike. Amy
then said, Where did you
come from? Oh, were from
well I dont know where,
all I know is that we work in
a place called Monsters Inc.
Whats Monsters Inc.?
asked Nadia. Monsters Inc.
is where we work. Im a station runner and Im Sulleys
coach here, said Mike. And
Im a scarer, I go through
random doors and frighten
kids but I stopped doing
that, I dont like it anymore,
Sulley told them. OK, lets

go for something to eat shall

we? Sure! they all exclaimed.
They all stayed friends even
when Sulley and Mike went
back. They will always be the
best friends forever.
The End.

Tell us another one Grandma! the kids shouted happily. No darlings, its time for
you to go to bed, I said to
the kids. I was not as young
as I used to be but I still remember Sulley and Mike and
the adventures that we had,
but thats for another time.
