INT- STUDIO MIDDAY

CHAT SHOW
RUAIRIDH:
Hello, and welcome to AM, the show all about music. Were going to
jump straight in today and pass over to Jamie to hear about the
music awards.
INTRODUCTION CLIP
JAMIE:
Music awards happen every year to show appreciation for the worlds
best and most popular music. Many different Music award ceremonys
take place each year whether it be for a different genre of music or
a different charity. For example we have:
Billboards
MTV Music awards
Grammys
BBC Music awards
MOBOs
Brits
Different music awards highlight different artists and different
types of Music Genres. The MOBO awards stand for Music of Black
Origin. This is a music awards show for all artists from a black
origin, they have more recently been known to focus on the UKs
Grime scene (English hip hop) whereas the Grammys are the most
popular music awards event and focus on the charts and mainstream
artists.
A lot of Music Awards come into contest with each other to gain more
publicity. Music awards are often held to raise money for a charity
or to host the event again the following year. Some recent winners
of Music Awards are often at more than on type of Music Awards such
as Rihanna will appear at the MOBOs and the Grammys along with most
of the others as well.
Stormzy an English Grime artist has more recently become very
popular both on the Grime scene and Music in general. After
receiving over 8 Million views on Shut up a news story was made on
Channel 4 about the artist. After receiving the 2014 Best Grime
Act at the MOBOs last year he has now been nominated for three
more awards this year.
Music Awards are not only a good thing for artists but give fans a
chance to go and watch them get there awards as well. Performances
are a must at each Music Awards ceremony to give them more attention
and highlight what goes on each year, this enables the promoter to
know what each year needs to make it better and more Interesting.
For example at the Brits this year Kanye West performed his 2015 hit
single All Day along with a lot of backing dancers including South
London star Stormzy.

A lot of drama also goes on at Music awards as there Is obviously

competition between artists for example when Kanye thought Beyonc
should have won the award instead of Taylor Swift and announced it
to everyone back in 2010 at the VMAs. Stay tuned, because after the
break we have an exclusive interview for you!

Music is one of the main aspects within our society and it is
constantly changing to suit the forever changing society. For
example, the sex appeal within music and music videos, or the change
from vinyl to all our music being on our phones...kids these days

will never understand the struggle of having to carry around 3

different cds
I am here with Ollie one of our AM presenters to discuss this
subject.
OLLIE:
Hello guys
JESS:
So, there has been a vast amount of changes within the music
industry from the type of music to the subject that the music is.
1 MINUTE OF IMPROV BETWEEN OLLIE AND JESS
JESS:
Statistics show that actually music over the last 60 years as become
more and more energetic, you can see that through vast amount of
music, from the Beatles, to now DJ Fresh and Justin Bieber, I think
it party adds with the advancement of technology.
1 MINUTE OF IMPROV BETWEEN OLLIE AND JESS
JESS:
The music industry is now so large that music videos and artists are
used for advertising, for example Miley Cyrus advertising the beats
pill in her video for We Cant Stop
1 MINUTE OF IMPROV BETWEEN OLLIE AND JESS
JESS:
Music has become less and less original according to statics due to
sounds being create more by technology that actual instruments. For
example the song Firestone by Kygo is ultimately computer generated,
whereas music from the Beatles and the rolling stones creating their
own music from instruments that they played.
1 MINUTE OF IMPROV BETWEEN OLLIE AND JESS
JESS:
Music has become so influenced by fashion, appearance and sex.
People now aspire to look like those artists they see on screen.
1 MINUTE OF IMPROV BETWEEN OLLIE AND JESS
JESS:
Sex has ultimately become such a big part of society and its
displaying this through music. Artist such as Whitney Houston and
Frank Sinatra talk about love and happiness, whereas now love has
turned to sex with tracks such as Anaconda by Nicki Minaj, and S&M
by Rihanna.

years and months.

This is midi keyboard and its used for a technique called sampling,
when someone chops up a song usually from vinyl and places it inside
their own work, midi keyboards are becoming cheaper and cheaper and
so in light of this I was set the challenge of making a new
soundtrack for Georgias video game trailer. Heres how I got on.

Featuring The Bomb by Pigeon John, one of the most immediate
things we notice is the normality of the sound and how it merely
seems like a runners track-corresponding with the action we are
seeing. This is not a sweeping, dramatic piece reminiscent of
Skyrim, nor is it 8-bit and synonymous with arcade-style and
handheld games. Ultimately there is no suggestion that the gentleman
we are seeing is soon to be embroiled in the Zombie Apocalypse.
Although it may not be immediately obvious, there is a good amount
of cutting to the beat. The light jingling at the start is in time
with the jogger stretching-it reflects his gentle movements whilst
hinting at this being a build-up for something bigger.
Likewise, the sound corresponds with his seemingly arrogant mannerthe singer is confident and the lyrics appear to be somewhat cocky,
just how the character is being presented to us.

As the trailer goes on, and we see the population of Los Angeles
rather humorously transforming into zombies, the song can be less
associated with other work-out songs and more as a contrapuntal
soundtrack to the blood-drenched action.
One of the more profound, and clever, elements is how the wording
corresponds with some of the visual. The opening line references a
clear blue sky, which is present in the location. Alongside a number
of smaller more clever inclusions is perhaps the part where this is
used to the best effect-when he says Im the bomb and about to blow
up, we actually see a building, blow up.
These technicalities aside, it helps show Dead Island as what it is;
a fun, gory game which has the potential to revitalise an
increasingly stale genre. It isnt afraid to break away from the
trends set by many of their counterparts-there are no foreboding,
ominous and dramatic song accompanying the slaying of dragons, for
example, nor is there a rock song being played over the advert for
the latest FPS. Dead Island 2 is set to embrace what gaming is all
about. Enjoyment.
RUAIRIDH:
Thanks for joining us today! Now, to see us out, is the revised Dead
Island advert, with my soundtrack!
