CAN WE TRUST THE BIBLE?

The Bible is unquestionably the most popular book in the history of mankind, but
can we trust it? The Word of God continues to be discussed and read consistently by
people of all races, ages, and backgrounds. Although the Bible is referred to as the
best selling book of all time, only some believe in it's truth. We as Christians trust that
the bible is true because of its fulfilled prophecy, archaeological evidence, and it's
internal consistency.
The Old Testament is filled with many prophecies regarding the nation of Israel,
the heritage of the Messiah, and the life of Jesus Christ himself. Many fail to recognize
that the bible contains hundreds of specific prophecies with extraordinary detail. All
biblical prophecies have been fulfilled at the prophesied time. In the days of Jesus, the
Jews had been awaiting a Messiah. Jesus came and fulfilled many prophecies
throughout his entire life, yet many Jews failed to recognize Jesus as the "anointed one"
because Jesus did not fit the expectations of the Jews. Jesus came in the lowest form
filled with humility and compassion. Jesus lacked the initial power that the Jews
expected him to possess from the very beginning. Isaiah 46:9-10 states I am God, and
there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times
things that are not yet done. This verse concludes that God declares all that has or
ever will happen. The God of the bible controls time to this very day and knows all
things.
Many times critics as well as ordinary people fail to recognize that there are
indeed thousands of archaeological discoveries that validate the bible and it's truth.
Until the mid 1900's there was no archeological evidence that King David ever existed.

Jesus' crucifixion is completely accurate to the time period involving the brutality and
merciless violence of the Roman Empire. The details of Jesus' crucifixion are
consistent with archeological evidence found in Israel from the days of Jesus. Credited
archaeologist Nelson Gluek stated No archeological discovery has ever controverted
[overturned] a Biblical reference. Scores of archeological findings have been made
which confirm in clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible."
Archeology from early AD continues to prove the validity of the word of God.
One of the most overlooked reasons the Bible can be trusted is the fact that the
Bible is internally consistent. Some critics do not see why this is incredible yet if
examined closely this truth is highly improbable. The bible is made up of 66 different
documents all with different authors during different time periods written to different
people for different reasons, in three different languages, yet not one verse contradicts
another. Most of the bible's authors did not even know each other and lived thousands
of miles apart. The bible also addresses the most controversial topics and unanswered
questions; each author of the bible comes from a different background with different
problems at hand, yet each give the same answer. Each of the 66 books points to
Jesus as the Messiah and savior of the world without sin and full of righteousness. This
supports the fact that the authors were divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the
word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 states "All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable
for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness."
The bible proved, proves, and will continue to prove itself true time and time
again until the end of time. We can have faith that the bible contains nothing but truth
because of it's fulfilled prophecy, archaeological evidence, and internal consistency. We

as Christians are called to "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who

asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (1 Peter 3:15). We can find
comfort in knowing we have found truth amidst a world of lies and confusion. Jesus is
the answer and the word of God speaks to his people.
