To whom it may concern:

Mr. Martin Wise taught in my Spanish classroom during his Level I field experience and
volunteered as guest speaker for my classes during the 2013-2014 school year. Mr. Wise worked with
9th grade students who were completing their first year of Spanish at Holmes Junior High School, in
Cedar Falls, IA. Based on these experiences I feel that the following recommendation is accurate and
reflects Mr. Wises qualifications.
Martin has many qualities in teaching that allow him to be very effective when working with
students. First is that he has excellent relationship building skills. He makes it a priority to get to know
students names, their interests and is kind and caring to all students. My 9th grade students really
enjoyed getting to know him and felt that he cared about them as people. In addition is his enthusiasm
for teaching and learning and excellent public speaking skills. Mr. Wise always brought excitement and
positive energy to our classroom. Students looked forward to him being in front of the classroom and
were engaged when he was teaching. Also, Martin has excellent leadership skills and professionalism.
He always arrived ready to perform at his best and was inquisitive and reflective about the teaching role,
as well as the student learning.
Mr. Wise not only brings important personal and leadership skills to his future profession, but
also critical experience in the target language and culture. Martin has spent extensive time in Spanishspeaking countries that has allowed him to develop relationships with native speakers and enhance his
language skills and content knowledge. These experiences abroad give Mr. Wise firsthand knowledge of
the target culture, which will help him to engage and interest his future students, as well as promote
their own development of cultural competency. He was very generous in giving up part of his winter
break to come speak to all of my classes about his time in Argentina. Students benefited greatly from
hearing about his personal experiences living in Argentina and how it compares to life in Iowa.
Overall, Mr. Wise is a dependable and professional. He is friendly, flexible and has a very
positive attitude. He is caring with students and colleagues alike. Martin sets high expectations for
himself, and works hard to reach them. I look forward to his success as a practicing teacher and know
that he will be a deserving candidate for a future teaching position.
