BATU PAHAT, Sun.- A couple and their ten years old son were killed on the

EXERCISE 2
Read the passage below carefully and answer the questions that follow.

The tapir is a relative of horses and rhinoceros in some ways but it is quite different
from the horses. The tapir is the same as horse in the sense that both have odd hoofed legs.
A tapir is usually heavy and clumsy. It is smaller than a rhinoceros and has no
horns. Its head looks like a pigs head. Like the rhinoceros, it has small eyes and short ears.
The tapirs tail is short, too.
Tapirs live in swamps and streams. You can usually find them in jungles and forests
of Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatera and other tropical countries. They like to hide themselves
among the leaves and tall grasses. They sleep during the day and search for food only at
night.
Tapirs are herbivores. They eat leaves, fruits and other vegetation. Their senses of
hearing and smelling are very good. They are also good swimmers and often find protection
in the water.

How is a tapir related to the horse?

One day , Aizat went to his rich uncle and told him, I heard that you know the secret
of making gold. Please tell me. I am very poor. My wife is sick and my children are
starving.
Now, everybody knew how lazy Aizat was. He never planted any paddy on his land.
Instead, his fields were full of weeds.
Aizats uncle replied, I need one more item before I can make the gold. Will you
help me to get it?
Aizat agreed , of course. His uncle handed him a large pot and said, You must plant
your fields with paddy. When the paddy is full ripe, put one grain from each stalk into this
pot. Bring me the pot when it is full.
Aizat did as he was told. He spent all his time looking after his paddy plants and
collecting one grain from each stalk. In the meantime, his wife and children quietly
harvested the rest of the paddy and sold it.
It took five years for the pot to be filled up. When Aizat took the pot to his uncle, the
old man unlocked a large iron chest. It was full of gold coins.

How are you? Are you busy preparing for your monthly tests? I know you do not like
tests, but they help you to be more prepared for your UPSR. I know you always score good

Next week, my uncle and aunt are coming to visit us. They will keep me busy. My

television, he buys me magazines. Most of them are about education. I prefer magazines
about famous people.
I would like to write to Zurina and Ranjini. Can you get the addresses for me, please?

since I moved to my new school.

Read the passage below carefully and answer the questions that follow.

Cleanliness is very important when we handle food. There are many ways to ensure
that the food we prepare is clean and healthy to eat.
First, we must wash all fruits and vegetables carefully before eating or cooking. We
must never eat unwashed apples and oranges or unwashed beans and carrots. The reason is
they may still contain pesticides which may harm us.
Not only must we wash all pots and pans but also dishes, forks and spoons. We must
use clean water and soap to do this. Clearly, this will help remove all germs and bacteria.
Personal cleanliness is also very important. Make sure that your hair is covered before
you begin to cook. Always wash your hands with soap and water before you prepare or serve
food.
Finally, remember to keep all food covered. Also keep gardens and drains clean.
Remember! Rubbish attracts flies and rats. Unclean surroundings too, may lead to diseases.

substance called chlorophyll also helps the plants to produce their own food.
Water also plays another important role in human lives. For ages, people have used it
as a means of transportation. People used rafts, boats, canoes and ferries to travel on water to
fulfil their needs. With modern technologies, big ships can now travel on water faster and
deliver goods all around the world.

Long ago, there were two friends who were farmers. Their names were Ujang and
Ramli. They were best of friends and neighbours too.
One day, when Ujang was digging a well, he found a wooden box buried deep in the
ground. He opened and found gold coins in it. Ujang told Ramli what he had found. He said,
You are my best friend. I plan to share half the gold with you. Ramli replied, Ill take the
box home and take out my share. Then you can have the rest.
Back home, when Ramli and his wife saw the gold coins, they became greedy. They
wanted all the gold for themselves. Ramli and his wife imagined what they could do with the
gold. After dinner, they opened the box once more to see the gold coins. To their surprise, the
gold coins suddenly changed into worms. Ramli thought Ujang played a trick on him.
Feeling angry and disappointed, Ramli and his wife took the box to Ujangs house. As
they came nearer, they could hear Ujang and his wife talking about their good fortune. Ramli
and his wife became angrier. They wanted to teach Ujang and his wife a lesson. They decided
to climb up the roof. Through a hole on the roof, they emptied the box of worms onto the
