Industrial Revolution

Project Rubric
Directions: Select three project options to complete with your partner. You may select three across, three down, or three
diagonal. You will each complete one project individually and complete one project as a pairturning in a total of 3 projects.
Each project (EXCEPT MUSICAL) must have a Works Cited page turned in to the class project folder in Google Drive. Your
Works Cited must include the web addresses of all sites that you used information in your project.

Find pictures (or create your own) of


working conditions during the Industrial
Revolution and photos from our current
time. Photos can show child labor,
factories, house, etc. You must have a
minimum of 20 photos. You must include
captions that provide a description of
each image. Put them together using
Emaze or Google Slides.

Research current child labor laws in the


US. Find out what the laws are and then
consider: Should there be stiffer
legislation? Should there be more
careful monitoring of childrens work by
parents/teachers? What should the rules
be regarding hours/responsibilities?
Should there be rules regarding
interference with school work?
Punishments for violators?
Write a 1 page letter (GoogleDoc) to a
policy maker or editor expressing your
opinions, based on research. This will be
turned in to Google Classroom.

Create a soundtrack of at least 10 songs


that shows the working and living
conditions during the Industrial
Revolution and/or songs about working
and living conditions today. Themes you
might want to include are sickness,
stress, low pay, pollution, etc. Create the
album using SongDrop and share it
using the class Twitter account.
Design the cover of your album as well
as an explanation of why you selected
those songs. This part will be turned in
to the class project folder on Drive.

Research, write, & produce a short


movie based on the life of someone
living during the industrial revolution.
The person can be a member of the
working poor, a wealthy capitalist, a
middle class individual, a child laborer,
etc. You can act out the movie (record
using your smartphone) or use Animoto
to create it. You can use WeVideo to
produce your movie if you use your
iPhone. Your movie must be at least 3-5
minutes in length. A script must be
turned in.

Working conditions still vary widely


depending on the work being performed
and the area in which the work is
located. Research global companies that
have a good reputation for high quality
working conditions. Based on your
research, create a top ten list of modern
companies. Define your criteria for your
list and defend your list on Google Docs.
Then, create a recruitment
advertisement brochure for one of the
companies using Docs. Your goal is to
increase employment at this company.

Create a series of charts/timeline that


show rapid urban growth during the
industrial revolution. Include information
on population, productivity, average life
span, pollution information, etc. Ex:
Manchester, London, Lowell, Mass.
Create the same series of charts that
show rapid urban growth for modern
times. Ex: China, India
Use Time Toast to create your charts.

Poor and crowded living conditions


during the Industrial Revolution led to
the spread of many illnesses, including
cholera.
Research the causes, symptoms, and
treatments for cholera. Then, create a
public service announcement to educate
the masses about the illness. Use your
smartphone to record your PSA. You will
turn your PSA in to the class project

During the Industrial Revolution we see


new economic ideas surface which, in
turn, transform political/social thought.
Compare & contrast Socialism/
Communism & Capitalism. Research
what each means, the advantages and
disadvantages of using each system,
how each system impacts a countrys
social & political system, etc.
Choose two countries (past or modern)-

Imagine that you are living during the


early years of the Industrial Revolution.
Choose to be one of the following: a
factory working, a child laborer, or a
working class mother. Research what
life was like for your assumed character.
Write a series of diary entries in the role
of your assumed character. Be sure to
record the events of your day and
include specific details about your life.
