values and what types of
community work we can do at
home, school and in the wider
community.
b) Discuss global
organisations that help people
around the world e.g. Caritas
Australia - Project Compassion.
c) Explain to the students
what they will be putting on their
brainstorms and how to use
popplet.com.
d) Brainstorm or Mind-map
(popplet) on the interactive
whiteboard of what different
things we can do to help others at

students a number - that number

Lesson 2
(ACHCK003)
National Charity
Organisations
and Research
Analysis

1. Questioning and
researching
2. Reflecting
3.Analysing

Students can
explain what
organisation
they are
researching and
what they do to
help in our
communities.
Students should
be able to identify
what makes a
charity
organisation and
what sorts of
things they do for
people in need in
our local
communities.

2. Students
research and can
answer basic
questions that
relate to their
assigned charity
organisation.

Community Charities
Students will research
the charity allocated to their
groups by using the links and
questions given as a guide on
weebly.
Students will gain a
deeper understanding of what
charity work means according to
our local communities and how
we help those in need.
Research will consist of
the basic questions for exploring
their allocated community
charities
a) What is the name of the
charity - what does it stand for?
b) What do they do for the
communities?
c) How can we help them?
Donations ? Money, food,
clothes ?
d) What sort of people in
need do they help?
e) How do they help in
Australia?
f)
How do they help
internationally ?(If they do)
g) What does their logo
look like? Draw or include a
picture of the logo
The students will further their research by
posing questions themselves and
answering them according to interactive
links and pointers that will bring them a
deeper understanding of the task and the
content knowledge.

Questions based
on research and
what they will put
in their final
presentation.
Questioning and
researching is
guided by
Weebly.com and
the WebQuest
online for the
students to
explore.

Creating Community Info Slides Students will be consolidating their

research and producing a slideshow
presentation that outlines the main points
of their charity.
The slide will answer all of the questions
posed throughout the WebQuest and will
show their knowledge and understanding
of the content.

Students can
put their
research into

Students will be asked to

i ) Gather their information on their
organisation as a group and pick out what
they think the class needs to know about
this organisation.
ii ) Form a slideshow presentation of their
organisation that they will present to the
class to show what they have learnt.
iii ) Include examples of what we each
could do to help this organisation.
Students will have more than one lesson
to put their information into the slides and
to create their final product - This may

present them in class to their classmates.
The teacher will be looking for students
that have:
a) Finished their research
and made use of the questions
and followed instructions
b) Correct spelling of the
organisation names
c) Visually pleasing yet fun

together to get information, asking

each other questions and helping
one another.
The groups of students will each be called
up individually to give a small presentation
to the class and show their powerpoint.
They will need to put forth the information
that they have found E.g. what is the name
of the organisation, where are they in Perth,
what do they do for the community etc. Just
a brief discussion so that the teacher can
see that they do actually understand the
content and what they have been looking at.

Students discuss
their allocated
charity and can
present their
findings through
google slide to
the class.

Lesson 4
(ACHCK003)
Finalising
presentation task
and presenting
findings to the
class for
discussion.

1.Analysing
2. Communicating
3. Evaluating

4. Students present
their findings and
discuss what their
charity does etc.
Discussion with
class over what
they have learnt,
what they can do in
their school
community or for
local causes - Lead
up to next objective
for class.

After all groups have presented their

information to the class the teacher will get
them to sit back down on the mat and will
discuss what they have learnt about the
different community work we do in our
society.
The teacher will then introduce the students
to their main term project of actually putting
forth a project on community values to the
school and implementing either a program
for the school or maybe a fundraiser for a
local charity etc.
The students will then participate in a
discussion with the teacher on what they
would be able to do within the school for a
community service project - thinking about
what they can do to help the school e.g.
littering, bullying, cybersafety, road safety
etc programs.
