sentence of our own.

on the board. Boom! The door slammed as my
brother walked out of the room.

sentence together as class.

use an onomatopoeia in a sentence. Now its your turn to
write your own sentence then we will share with the class.

Now you have mastered how to use these onomatopoeias in a sentence! Next week we
will start using onomatopoeias in our poetry and you will all be able to recognize them in
different poems!
LESSON ELABORATION, EXTENSION, AND MODIFICATION
Elaboration:
1. I will provide the students a list of five different sentences. They will then circle the
onomatopoeia in each sentence. They will then use one of the onomatopoeias
from a sentence I provided to write a sentence using one onomatopoeia.
Extension:
1. Students will write 3 onomatopoeias they did not hear in the book and use them
each in a sentence.
Modification:
1. instead of having students write a poem with their onomatopoeias they have just
learned they will write one simple sentence to show their grasp on
onomatopoeias.
ASSESSMENT
I will gather their sticky notes with their sentences using an onomatopoeia written on
them.
