Assignment 2:
ICT Portfolio
15th February 2016

YEAR 12 LESSON PLAN 3: Data Analysis and ICT Tools
Year Level: 12

Date: 29th February, 2016

Time: 1.00pm 3.00pm

Unit 1: Biodiversity and the

interconnectedness of life.

Topic: Analysis and summary of field

trip data and the use of ICT Tools

Length: 2 hours

Lesson Summary:
The purpose of this lesson is to provide students with the opportunity to compare and collaborate between groups to
summarise the data collected on the field trip. A PowerPoint Presentation will be used as a follow-on from the field trip
homework sheets. Students will then be expected to work with their groups and to use ICT tools to further their
understanding of biological concepts. In particular, Google Earth/Maps will be used to conduct an online investigation
of biodiversity concepts at the target creek or waterway site. Students will use the group iPads to access resources and
to record observations or data.
Lesson Outcomes:
Students will be expected to:
1. Compare and collaborate between groups to summarise field trip data
2. Work within individual groups of six students to analyse field trip data
3. Conduct research online to further understandings of biological concepts
4. Use ICT software to further understandings of biological concepts
5. Use iPads to record, store and manipulate biological data
Assessment Criteria:
Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) (2010). Unit 1 Biology: ACLBS004,
ACLBS014, ACLBS015, ACLBS020, ACLBS021, ACLBS026, ACLBS028
Safety and Risk Assessment:
Standard risk assessments apply to classroom activities
Students MUST be supervised at all times whilst using the iPads; due to internet connectivity and privacy concerns.

BODY OF LESSON: Data analysis and ICT tools (1.30 2.45pm)

Part One: Data analysis

The groups are to

exchange and summarise
the field trip data. The
summary of data is crucial
for use within the
assessment task.

Part Two: ICT Tools

Biodiversity includes
the diversity of species
and ecosystems;
measures of
biodiversity rely on
classification and are
used to make
comparisons across
spatial and temporal
scales (ACSBL015)

Provide students with an

influence the water
quality in the focus
creek?

influences on the subject
area, for example:
