Health and Safety Committee

Purpose
The Health and Safety Committee is constituted to act as a consultative and advisory forum
whose aim is to promote a healthy, safety and welfare within the College; as is required by
the Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations, the Management of Health
and Safety at Work Regulations and the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees)
Regulations.

Terms of Reference
1 To ensure that the College complies with all relevant health and safety legislation

2 To promote co-operation between the College and its employees on all matters
relating to their health, safety and welfare

3 To advise on matters relating to the health and safety of staff, students,


contractors and members of the public entering the precincts of the College or
involved in College activities

4 To ensure appropriate measures are in place to audit the implementation and


effectiveness off health and safety matters in the College

5 To advise and make recommendations to the College’s Board on matters relating


to health and safety policy

6 To receive six monthly reports on health and safety performance with a view to
gauging the extent to which the College complies with health and safety
legislation

7 To receive, consider and make recommendations on reports submitted by Health


and Safety Working Group on health and safety matters

8 To submit copies of all minutes, reports and recommendations to staff and


members of the Board

Membership
The Health and Safety Committee will comprise:

• Chair – Director
• Director of Resources
• Director of Human Resources
• Health and Safety Officer
• Head of Faculty or their Representatives x 2
• Head of Enterprise and Innovation or their Representative
• Head of Student Support and Access
• Student Union Representative

The Committee may request other members as it considers appropriate to attend who have
relevant accountability

Frequency of Meetings
The Committee will meet once a term

Quorum Rules
Quorum is 5 members to include the Chair. If less than 5 members are present then any
actions agreed shall be subject to the ratification of a quorate meeting
