A Modern Proposal, Nay a Great Proposal
Students live in a world where they are given a vacation for constantly disobeying their
instructors, which to them is great. In fact, most people believe the world is great, but as an
instructor I know the true meaning of great. Great is being bickered at, nay thoroughly troubled
by these imbeciles we call students every single day. Great is being forced to grade thousands
upon millions of failed tests, questioning why people are allowed to breed. Great is dealing with
the defiant, crooked-looking children constantly misbehaving in my well-esteemed learning
environment. And the worst part of it all is that these obnoxious students do this whilst smiling
the most horrid, unremitting smiles I have seen in all of my great days. I mean no harm, I do
not, but when I hear parents asking me how great their child is doing in school, why, I just
break. Theres a problem with this great because when great is no longer great, well thats
just great. These great children deserve far worse than they are receiving. Now, Ive been nice,
but this niceness has gotten me nowhere, so Ive given up. I have lost all sanity, as these children
deserve to lose theirs. I propose that these misbehaving children receive a far more fitting
punishment for their violations against the foundations of education.
As a teacher, Ive had many years to let this concept wallow in my brain. I have
consistently found students to be full of potential, but theres always that one kid. That one kid
that seems to have an underlying aura of grotesqueness, and when that aura reaches the surface,
something deep in my soul breaks loose. Ah, its indeed the greatness in these students that

allows me to formulate the ideal punishments. When these kids misbehave, they flip my world
upside down, so naturally theirs should be flipped too. Id flip their restrained body upside down
at a 30 angle horizontally from the floor, the perfect angle for the highest level of pain. The
child is placed perfectly on a ramp, barely falling, barely upright. As the child resists, the incline
of the ramp increases more and more until theyre finally suspended 90 upside down. The kids
won't find this suspension great nor will they enjoy this vacation. But as proved by current
punishments, suspensions are never enough. We, teachers, weep our sorrows every day because
of these hoodlums. Our tears will not be wasted in vain, instead used in Chinese water torture.
Drop by drop, our tears drip down into the same crater of the childs forehead. Tear by tear, the
children drown in our sorrows. As seconds turn into minutes and minutes turn into hours, the
gradual drip-drop of the water slowly drains the child of what little life they have left. Finally,
they understand the life we live. They now experience the same agonizing pain we forcefully
survive. The torture of being restrained and lack of control withdraws the child of all sense of
comfort and safety. These children are perfectly capable of losing control in class, so why not
whilst restrained in an everlasting age of rest? This vacation will be one they will long remember.
My thoughts, my words, my tolerance, and my entire being are lost. These children have
lost me; lost my calmness and my ease of life. The Chinese water torture can only do so much.
These children completely overload my classroom with their constant yelling, complaining, and
eagerness to ruin everything. These children ought to be locked, nay shut away into nothingness;
lost from society, nay lost from themselves; lost from the demons inside them, nay the demons
they are. The key? Overload them. Overload their senses, make them feel so much pain that they
forget what pain means. Put the beast in an empty room. No furniture, no carpet, no windows,
just a chair. Every day, the color of the walls is painted a slight, indistinguishable shade darker,

Lupa Pushani 3
initializing the operation of insanity. A high-pitched squeal, comparable only to the animalistic
sounds these beasts make in classrooms, is played. The pitch of these squeals is heightened
regularly, making their ears bleed; making them wish for the pain to stop, only for that sole
desire to have the opposite effect. The only object in the room, the chair, is moved forward and
backward a foot periodically making them question where they are, whom they are. Then, the
temperature of the room is increased and decreased, fluctuating only one degree at a time.
Theyll go insane questioning themselves. What color is this room? Am I hearing things? Is it
getting hotter or colder? Poke them, aggravate them, force them to question their entire
existence. What did they do to get here? Ah, quite the memory to place in their heads. Pain,
suffering, an overload of emotions. Overload them to such an extent that they wont know what
an emotion is, leaving them completely numb long after being released. Forcing them to live life
moving day by day, hour by hour, as I do during the school day, leaving them with a perpetual
paranoia that they will surely remember.
But, sometimes these kids just don't know when enough is enough. If overloading them
doesn't work, strip them. Strip them of their sanity, of everything theyve ever known. Introduce
them to new feelings they never knew existed, and then heighten those emotions even further.
Drive them into a state of complete insanity, not knowing what to do, who they are, what the
world is. White torture is the answer. A torture so detrimental, the mind is deprived of all senses
and isolated to an extreme. The child is placed in a room of nothing, a white windowless room
with no sound. The whole cell is white; the floor is white, their clothes are white, the light is
white, and the white food is served on a white tray. There is no color and no trace of any voices.
To even use the white restroom requires a white slip of paper to be placed under the white door.
Whitethe color of nothing. They do not know anything but the nothingness they see in front of

Lupa Pushani 4
them. They cannot speak, they cannot hear themselves, they cannot see themselves. The room is
so quiet and so empty that they begin to forget how to think. All they hear is nothing. All they see
is the white nothing all around them. Theyll begin to hallucinate and imagine things that do not
actually exist in their small world of nothing. Carrying out this type of torture makes the puny
delinquent lose personal identity through the long periods of isolation. The isolation and silence
are deafening; they dont listen in class anyway, so their sense of hearing is worthless. Their
feelings are gone, numb to everything, no pain, no fear, just nothing. So much nothing that they
begin to have everything. They see it all, hear it all, but lack it all. Lack every grain of humanity,
losing the definition of life for all eternity.
The current system of punishment is complete and utter madness. Detentions, referrals,
suspensions? Its all malarkey. None of it works; the students continually misbehave. They have
no fear of their current punishments rather they enjoy them. They love having free time to sleep,
extra time out of class, and unplanned vacations. There is little to nothing that we can do. My
proposal is the only solution for this issue; nothing less will work. Forcing the students to clean
the school and landscape? No, why would physical labor work? The students would love that,
wouldnt they? Just slightly isolating the students from friends and social activities during school
would be a disaster. Students definitely dont care about their social lives. Even forcing the
students to write tedious essays about their misbehavior would be completely ineffective. My
plan is the best plan. If misbehaving students are driven to insanity, they wont know how to
misbehave, they wont know how to do anything. The admittance rate of psych wards will
increase beautifully. If misbehaving students are all in psych wards, there wont be any
misbehaving students to worry about in school. This is great as we can then sell these imbeciles
to doctors and scientists in need of test subjects, or possibly to the government for unethical

Lupa Pushani 5
scientific testing. Why, our schools economy would just boom! The school would be making so
much money. Because we have so much fear implanted upon them, the students who already
behave will thrive even further. Test scores will increase, and students will respect the beauty that
is education. Plus, with all the new psychologically damaging punishments, the psychology class
will be full of delight. Our school would blossom as a prestigious learning center. Fewer
delinquents and more room for the normal students to flourish, thrive, and remain behaved.
Misbehaving children have met the end of their days. Join me, as I revolutionize the
world of education. This is no longer just a proposal, this is a battle, nay a war against the beasts
we call students. This world is not great, but it will be. Together we can, we can abolish
misbehavior in schools and finally make this world great again. My proposal stands simply. First,
tease the students with water torture and make them suffer our pain. Next, take it a step further
and overload the students, forcing agonizing memories into their thick, yet puny skulls. And if
still not compliant, drive them into a state of unforgettable insanity. I know what great is. Great is
what we will be. Great is pure bliss, peace, quiet. Great is the serenity we will feel once these
demons are removed from our well-established learning environment, nay learning world. This
school shall become a legacy, for legions upon legions. We will rise; we will conquer! Finally, a
proposal that will work. A proposal that will force misbehaving students to remember their
mistakes. Something that will force them to forget they even made mistakes in the first place;
something that will force them to forget everything. The children will become perfect, mindless
creations of the great world theyve put themselves into, an eternal, perpetually painful
vacation.
