PHYSICS QUIZ 1 YEAR 7 SEMESTER 2, 2015/2016

HEAT
1. 150 kg of hot water at 90oC is mixed with cold water at 10 oC in a bath tube. The mixture has a
temperature of 40 oC. Calculate the mass of the cold water!
2. Brass having 0.1 kg of mass at a temperature of 90 oC is dipped into a container containing 0.5
kg of
water at a temperature of 10 oC. Suppose that these is not heat loss. What is their final temperature?
(specific heat of brass is 380 J/kgoC, specific heat of water is 4200 J/kg oC)
3. Calculate the quantity of heat required to change:
a. 500 grams of water at a temperature of 100 oC into water vapor at temperature of 100 oC
b. 750 grams of water at a temperature 100 oC into water vapor at a temperature of 100 oC
4. 6.2 x 10 6 J of heat is given to 5 kg of water at a temperature of 20 oC. Calculate the mass of the
mass
of water vapor fromed! (specific heat of water is 4200 J/kg oC; heat of vaporization of water is 2.27
x 10 6 J/kg)
