transient stability improvement and power oscillation damping.

6. Describe the principle of operation of STATCOM with appropriate control

scheme.

7. Explain how series compensation improves

i) Steady state power limit.
ii) Voltage stability
iii) Transient stability
iv) Power oscillation damping.

8. Explain in detail the principle of operation

a) Thyristor switched series capacitor
b) GTO thyristor controlled series capacitor.
