Duringthissemester,Ihadplannedtoincreasemyknowledgeofhowthebudget
planningprocessworksinaschooldistrictandtoimproveuponmydecisiveness.Iwas
abletoattendaboardmeetingatwhichthebudgetwasdiscussed,aswellasmeetwith
theschooldistrictsbusinessdirector.Inaddition,Iwasabletodiscussweatherrelated
procedureswithmymentor,whichhelpedmetolearnaboutthedecisionmaking
processwhenweatherisconcernedinthewinter.ThelargestcontributionthatIhave
madetomyownprofessionaldevelopmentthispasttermwastheabilitytoidentifyand
communicatewiththeresourcesthatwillhelpmegaincontentknowledgeabouttopics
thatIamnotfamiliarwith.Inthebeginningofthesemester,Ihaddifficultyeven
findingamentor,duetothefactthatIdonotworkwithinadistrict.Ihadtomake
contactsoutsideofmyworkplaceandthenfromthesenewlymadecontacts,determine
whoelseinthedistrictwouldbebeneficialformetoworkwith.OncemymentorandI
establishedarelationship,shewasabletorefermetotheschooldistrictsbusiness
director,whocouldprovidemewithvaluableinformationingreaterdetailthanmy
mentorcould.Administratorsneedtobeabletomaketheseconnectionssothatthey
canservethecommunity,theschooldistrict,andthestudentsinaneffectivemanner.
NotonlydidIprovethatIcouldutilizemyresourcesinordertovarymyrangeof
interests,butIalsoprovedthatIcouldeffectivelycommunicateusingbothwrittenand
personalcommunicationwithotherdistrictandcommunityleaders.Atenweek
semestergoesbyquickly,soIhadtobeabletomakethesedecisionsandopenmy
calendarupsothatIcouldmaketimefortheprioritiesthatIviewednecessaryatthe
time.Meetingwiththeschooldistrictsbusinessdirectorwasverynecessarytome
sinceIdonothaveanyfinancialexperience,seeingasthoughIhavenotworkedasan
administratororhandledabudgetbefore.AlthoughIamstillseekingout
opportunitiestoincreasethisknowledgebecauseofmylackofexperience,Ifeelas
thoughIhavetakenthestepstowardsbecomingwellroundedinmyknowledgeof
businessandfinancepracticesrelatedtoadistrict.Ilookforwardtofutureeventsin
myinternshipthatIhavediscussedwiththebusinessdirector,suchascomingto
buildinglevelfinancialmeetingsandcomingtothebudgetworkshopthatthebusiness
directorconductsfortheschoolboardmembers.AllofthesestepsthatIinitiatewill
helpmetoincreasemyknowledgeoftheseaspectsandknowwhatIwillneedtorefer
tootherdistrictresourcestohelpmemakedecisions.
