INSTRUMENT Supervisor Feedback on Candidate Self-Reflection
OVERALL COMMENT: Dear Lena,

It was a true pleasure to visit you, your class, and your Mentor Teacher at Portola Springs
Elementary School! I am thrilled that you are in a class in which the students demonstrate
excitement for learning! What a supportive environment for you as a Teacher Candidate.
For your second observation you chose to focus on form Rubric 6. This rubric has a focus on
respect and rapport in the learning environment. In your reflection you stated that you
demonstrated a rapport with and respect for your students. I agree with you! You have
developed connections with them, and they truly know that you care about them and their
learning. Your Mentor Teacher is a tremendous model for this as well, and I have observed
brief interactions between him and the students as well.
You were right on the spot when one student issued a rude comment. Taking care of it right
away was the proper way to handle the situation. Others thoughts and opinions should be
allowed to be respected in the classroom community.
It is appropriate that you are going to encourage your students to take academic risks. And be
sure to follow through with providing constructive feedback and praise.
Lena, you presented a fine lesson. Keep up the good work.
I am looking forward to our next observation visit!
All the Best,
Dorothy Flynn
