From 4-5 years old.
GOAL/OBJECTIVE (WHAT)
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
-Identify 2D shapes and their names (circle, triangle, square, and
rectangle).
-Identify the shapes of common objects and their colors.
MATERIALS/RESOURCES/STRATEGIES (HOW & WITH WHAT?)
Materials & resources:
Cut out shapes (four shapes for each student in different colors).
Technology integration:
Smart board/ Laptop.
Strategies:
Students will work as a whole group on the carpet.
ACTIVITIES
Grabber:
Clapping hands (I will tell the students to clap once if they hear me, and
then twice. I will continue up to five if needed until all of the students are
quiet and listening to me.

-Show students some pictures and
ask them to search for shapes in
the picture.
-Give each student a set of four
paper shapes.
-Have students stand in a circle
and place their shapes on the floor
in front of them.
-Tell students that we are going to
sing the hokey pokey song but
instead of having an arm or a leg
we will have a certain shape.
-Name the shape and tell students
to pick it up and sing with the
students.

-Search for shapes and identify their


names and colors.
-Take their set of four shapes.
-Students will stand in a circle and
place their shapes on the floor.
-Students will listen and ask if they
didnt understand.
-Students will pick up the shape and
will sing the song with the teacher.
Sing with the teacher until they finish
all of the four shapes

-Continue singing with students


until we have used all the shapes.
-My colleague Fatima will give the
students the activity.
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS (WHAT IF .?)
The smart board didnt work; I will show them the pictures from a book, and
they can find a shape or tell them to search for shapes in the classroom.
There were not enough shapes; each child will get one or two shapes
instead of four.
ASSESSMENT (WHAT DID?)
While singing the song, each student will show if he recognize the shape or
not.
