Philosophy of Education

My view on child development and learning is greatly influenced by Play Based

learning. With Play Based learning a child is able to be engaged in all aspects of learning. They
are able to make sense of the social environments they are and will be in. When using Play Based
learning a child is able to be fully engaged and working hands on while learning all subject
matter. As an educator I see children have an easier time comprehending what is being taught
instead of doing one worksheet after another. This also means the child works inside in a
classroom and outside physical play while integrating music, creative expression. As well as
there being different types of play the play also enhances adult to child interactions that are
modelled with moderate or high levels of physical activity.
I also heavily believe in Jean Piaget. Piaget believed that children learn best while being
hands on and actively exploring. As an educator, I believe that children should have an
environment that allows them to explore freely. This ensures providing an environment that is
safe and equipped with nurturing activities that are relatable to diverse families and children but
are also developmentally appropriate. Piagets theory of cognitive development revolved around
the childs readiness. Piagets theory comes in stages which means the child should not be taught
specific concepts until they pass the appropriate stage of their cognitive development.
Using this theory and approach, I will ensure the environments are rich in ways the
children can grow and learn and it meets their individual needs. As I advance I will gain new
knowledge on ways to enrich the learning experiences of the children. Family involvement is
very important to each childs growth and learning experience. I believe parent should be
involved in their childs learning from a young age to be able to help them later on in their
education. As an educator, I strive to always be open to an ever-changing environment to provide
safe place for children to thrive and succeed in their growth and development.
