Georgia Tech: Technically Great
Georgia Tech, founded in 1885, acquired the position one of the nations top colleges
since its start. It started as a university that existed as a means to educate the southern people in
an effort to change the south to a more industrial based part of the country. It became more
successful than anticipated, resulting in what it developed into today. Georgia Tech sets one up
for success in post-secondary life because it provides the best education, students acquire
financial support both during and after college, and its ideal location to live in.
Georgia Tech sets one up for success in post-baccalaureate life because of its superior
education that students acquire throughout their time attending. Georgia Tech ranks highly on
lists produced by many highly regarded sources. Forbes.com ranks it in 15th place for best public
school, while U.S. & World Report ranks it in 7th. U.S. & World Report also ranks Georgia Tech
as the 5th best school to go to for undergraduate engineering programs, all of which rank in the
top 10. These rankings exist all out of hundreds of other schools throughout the entire country.
Rankings like these only come about from a school that really offers an excellent education.
Many students that attended Georgia Tech went on to becoming very successful people later in
their lives. One alum has designed sets for some of todays most popular movies and TV shows,
including zombie series The Walking Dead and action movies The Hunger Games: Mockingjay
Parts 1 and 2 (gtalumni.org 1). Another sensed a need for security in the early days of the
Internet and created a company called Internet Security Systems which later became acquired
by IBM in 2006 for more than $1 billion (gtalumni.org 3). Georgia Tech breeds success.

Next, Georgia Tech sets one up for success in post-baccalaureate life through the
financial aid provided to students throughout the time that they attend. Georgia Tech provides
students a hefty amount of aid to students through grants. The total grant aid received by the
Student body stood at $19,918,377. This became spread out to about 67% of the student body,
which stands a little under 10,000 students. On top of that, 72% of the students acquired some
form of financial aid, putting the total amount of students on financial aid at around 10,600
students of the 14,682 currently enrolled (forbes.com 1). This kind of financial aid allows for
some breathing room for those who need help paying off student loans. However, students who
attend Georgia Tech do not have any difficult time paying off student loans, because of the jobs
that they are offered upon graduation. The average salary of a Georgia Tech alumni is about
$64,000 (nerdwallet.com 2). That average salary allows it in the top 25 schools for average
salary of alumni. According to nerdwallet.com, Georgia Tech is the only public university in the
top 10 list meaning its much more affordable compared to private universities
(nerdwallet.com 2). An excellent alternative to another University is Georgia Tech just because
of the financial aid provided to the students.
Finally, Georgia Tech sets one up for success in post-baccalaureate life because of its
ideal location for living. Georgia Tech is located in the heart of Atlanta. Many well-known
companies, such as Coca-Cola and Home Depot, are based in Atlanta. Both of these companies
have positions that use a graduates of engineering schools. At Coca-Cola, designers create the
images on the cans. At Home Depot, almost everything involves engineering. This means that
they look for students that qualify for a position. In addition to this, Atlantas location provides a
warm climate. Over 213 days out of the year, the temperature floats above 70 degrees Fahrenheit,

with only an average of two days a year that stay consecutively below freezing. This shows that
Atlantas geographical position provides a warmer place to live than the northern states.
A lot of chance occurs to a person throughout their attendance at a university. This means
that choosing the correct one leads to a successful life. Georgia Tech sets one up for success in
post-secondary life because it provides the best education, students acquire financial support
both during and after college, and its ideal location to live in.
