I would like to be able to be more effective with communicating with doctors and
doing the SBAR routine practices effectively without hesitations, by the end of my
pregraduate hours.

How am I going to achieve my goal? Identify a minimum of three (3) learning activites with timeframes/timelines.
1) Review SBAR communication notes
2) Role play activities with peers that can be done to help enforce more effective communication techniques
3) Shadow nurse preceptor and observe doctor-nurse interactions

Learning Goal #2
My goal must be based on my learning needs.
Working with diverse client populations, I would like to familiarize myself with three
more cultures that I am not aware of, in which I will be able to provide more
culturally sensitive care within my practice. I plan to complete this goal by
April 01, 2016.

How am I going to achieve my goal? Identify a minimum of three (3) learning activites with timeframes/timelines.
1. I will read the CNO document on Culturally Sensitive Care and exhibit these standards within my therapeutic nurse-client
relationships.
2. I will familiarize myself with 3 different cultures including Muslim, Chinese, and Jewish by February 01, 2016

How am I going to achieve my goal? Identify a minimum of three (3) learning activites with timeframes/timelines.
1. January: Read agency hand-washing standard guidelines, and important teaching principles when educating individuals on
hand-washing techniques.
2. March: Raise awareness amongst peers by handing out flyers and posting in message boards, so that compliance is
brought to colleagues attention
3. September: Attending a hand-washing seminar that is held by IPAC team.
4. December: Hold a hand-washing seminar in workplace, if manager deems as appropriate for the clinical team.

How do my learning goals support my commitment to continuing competency?

How does my learning relate to the competencies of my practice?
By completing and achieving the set out goals. I am upholding the competencies
of the standards and guidelines that are enforced by the nursing profession.
This new knowledge and practice will contribute to quality nursing practice and
increase the publics confidence in the profession.
