Introduction
Identifying shapes is a fundamental math skill. Understanding shapes allows the connection between the shape itself and the object
out in the world.

Developmental Activities
What is a shape? Can you name some shapes? Can you draw some shapes?
Drawing Activity
The student will practice drawing the shapes by following the dotted lines, then a second time with guiding less
lines, using crayons
Shape Identification Activity
The teacher will give the student a worksheet and read the directions
The student will follow the oral directions by using the right color to color the shapes. (student knows his colors)

Take the student on a shape walk to find shapes in and around the classroom/school.

After the shape walk, reflect on the shapes that were found.

Formative The student will be taught the shapes orally, visually, and in print ( for exposure). He will practice
drawing, discussing, and identifying shapes during the lesson.
Summative The pretest will identify what shapes the student already knows. The posttest will show if he has
mastered and can apply his knowledge.

The data collection from the teacher, pretest and posttest (the students formative and summative assessments results)
will determine if additional teaching is needed for mastery of objectives and standards.
