MATERIALS NEEDED

Blue Group description, Yellow Group description, blue post-its, yellow post-its

ACTIVITY SUMMARY

Introduction, activity, discussion, closing

1. Introduction of activity (5 minutes)


PROCEDURE

a. Counselor will introduce group activity


b. Counselor will put group members into 2 separate groups (Blue and
Yellow)
i. Students will receive a blue or yellow post-it to wear
ii. Groups will sit together

2. Activity (10 minutes)


a. Members will read their coordinating group information sheets
i. This sheet will tell them how to act and what to think during the
activity
ii. Yellow Group: intelligent, always raise their hands, always
know the answer, given attention from the teacher, do not like
the blue group because they are lazy and do not try hard at
school
iii. Blue Group: quiet, average students, usually know the
answers but do not participate in class, ignored by the teacher,
do not like the yellow group because they are stuck-up and
know-it-alls.
b. Counselor will lead group in learning about stereotypes and prejudice
i. Most attention and praise will be given to the Yellow Group
ii. Blue Group will not be allowed to participate
3. Discussion (13 minutes)
a. Counselor will end the activity and have students go back to being
themselves
b. Counselor will lead the group on the following discussion questions:
i. What did it feel like being in the Yellow Group?
ii. What did it feel like being in the Blue Group?
iii. Is everyone different or the same?
iv. What would it be like if everyone was the same?
v. Should we judge others based on things such as how they
look or how intelligent they are? Why or why not?
vi. How do we show that we accept others differences?
4. Closing (2 minutes)
a. Counselor will summarize main points from the group activity and
discussion
