In what ways will having free college education affect our economy?
Free college education has been talked about for years in political debates, and also in
congress. Student loans are becoming unpayable, student are having to stress about paying for
books, and underprivileged are not able to afford college in the recent years and it is increasing
every year. Because of this it has been a major topic of discussion among the presidential
democratic candidates. By having free college education it could affect the United State
economy in many way. Bernie Sanders proposal for free college education called for a $750
billion in federal funds over ten years, while Hillary Clintons proposal would spend $350 billion
for the next ten years. This mean tax payers would have to pay for all of the money spent in the
free college education plans, the middle class would have less money to spend in the economy
causing a decline. College education needs a reform but making college education free will hurt
the economy.
In both proposals for a plan of free college education by Bernie Sanders and Hillary
Clinton, both plans rely on tax payer to fund the plans. This would still allow school to continue
operation under normal condition, but with the new funding might actually lead the school to pay
less attention to the cost effectiveness. This would happen because the colleges would not have
to worry about the student to drop out and go to a better cost effective school. Because of the
people having to pay taxes the government would have control over the school spending. This

would limit the college of what the student want to do, such as research, fixing building, and
getting new supplies and equipment.
