Earthquake Data Los Angeles County

This data set shows recent earthquake activity as recorded by the USGS with a close look at Greater L.A County. We can
see that theres been little no activity in our general vicinity with exception of a recent 3-5 point magnitude tremor in
the Santa Clarita region. The lack or earthquake activity around an active fault like the San Andreas is always a hot topic
debate in Los Angeles as we expect the next big one that we all know is and will happen a lot sooner rather than later.

Earthquake Data Continental USA

The data set present here shows earthquake activity across the USA. We notice some rather signficant activity near
Oklahoma and Kansas ranging between 3 and 5 points in magnitude. These earthquakes in Oklahoma prove a new
hazard that the midwest has to worry about. It is reported that in 2015 alone, Oklahoma experienced almost 900+ 3.0 or
greater magniture eartquakes. By comparison, 2007 recorded only one of those quakes. Scientists point to oil and
natural gas exploration for the recent increase as salt water takes the place of the piped oil and mined gas. This is now a
topic that has proved to be controversial as activists blame the energy industry for the recent activty and potential
threats that earthquakes cause ontop of heavy storms and tornadoes that the region has to deal with.

The earthquake data we see on a global scale is right in tune with what we understand as the centers of the tectonic
activty. In South America, the Andes plate and Andes mountain range is ever active and thats evidence by a recent and
devesatating quake in Ecuador this weekend. We can also see that the Pacific Ocean has a high concentraton of
earhquakes and the recent activity in Japan is clearly oulined as the entire nation is convered in red dots marking quakes
of magniture 3 and higher.
