This is a book that gives all the details regarding what a construction manager is, what
their field of work consists of, and what their education looks like. There are five chapters in this
book. Chapter one talks about what a construction manager does. It describes how demanding of
a career it is. It also introduces the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA).
The second chapter talks about the education required of a construction manager. It shows what a
typical course outline looks like for a construction management student as well as certifications.
Chapter three goes through the experiences of a construction manager. This chapter defines what
the profession is, the history of the field of construction management, and all the different
aspects of it such as time management, safety management, risk management, and quality
management. The fourth chapter explains the place of a construction manager in the world.
Globalization plays a huge role in their place in the world. Chapter five describes the future of
construction managers. It shows an outlook of what is to come in this field and the work and
education that will be available.
This book is very well structured and easy to read. It has a very clear table of contents
that will get you to the exact part of the book you are looking for. This is a reliable source
because the author of this book is the Vice President of Communications for the Construction
Management Association of America. He is a very well educated man who works in the field of
construction management. This source would be very helpful to read for someone that is curious
about the field of construction management. The structure of the book makes it very easy to
understand and allows the reader to find specifics that they are curious about.

Oo, Bee Lan, and Benson Teck Heng Lim. Game-based Learning in Construction Management
Courses: A Case of Bidding Game. Engineering, Construction and Architectural

This is an article that discusses learning by using games in the field of construction
management. It states that this has been a successful method in many other fields. There has
recently been a more increased use of games in teaching and learning in construction
management. In this article they focused on a bidding game. Oo and Lim wanted to see if it
would enhance the learning process. They are comparing the effectiveness of a game as a
teaching method and the overall motivation, satisfaction, and learning experience of the students
that are participating in this experiment. They did a research survey of 100 students in Australia
that are participating in this learning method. Oo and Lim found that they had an overall positive
result when it came to satisfaction of gameplay to learn. Most students enjoyed the learning
experience and would prefer group games rather than traditional learning methods. They found
that educators could incorporate the gameplay into their teaching styles.
This source is a peer reviewed scholarly article. This scholarly article is formatted in
paragraphs. It is formatted in five different sections. The first section is the purpose of the article,
followed by the design, methodology and approach, then the findings, followed by the practical
implications, and lastly the originality and value. This is an interesting article to read if you are

interested in the different learning and teaching methods that are arising in the construction
management industry. It is formatted in a way that makes it easy to read and easy to understand.
This seems to be a reliable source because it is a peer reviewed article. There is a list of the
references that the authors used for this article at the bottom. It shows a list of thirty-eight
references. This article has a very different topic and is very interesting to read.

Scott, Lloyd, and Chris Fortune. Towards the Improvement of the Student Experience of
Assessment and Feedback in Construction Management Education. European Journal
of Engineering Education, 38.6 (2013): 661-670.
This source focuses on higher education. It talks about the assessments in the field of
construction management and the roles of the lecturers and educators in giving those
assessments. It discusses the effective strategies taken by educators and by the students. They
conducted an online survey that involved 30 Irish academics that are in the discourse community
of construction management. Scott and Fortune related the information collected in the survey to
current literature in the assessment process. Using the collected data, they make
recommendations on how to better improve assessment strategies and to encourage deep
learning. They analyzed the findings and gave charts and statistics matching them.
Approximately 66% of respondents have 10 years or more experience in teaching
undergraduate students (Scott & Fortune, p. 665). They gave a bar graph that shows the types of
assessments that were recorded through the survey. These different types of assessments vary
from summative exams to presentations to journals. A few of the issues that negatively impacted
the educators with students were time management, work loads, and large classes. The
conclusion that they came to was that one of the main things that needs to be changed or fixed is
building both the educators and students understanding of the assessment.
This source is a peer reviewed scholarly article. This scholarly article is formatted in
paragraphs. At the top of the article is a summary of what the article is about. It has five subtitles.
The first is the introduction. Then follows the assessment and learning subtitle, followed by the
research setting and methodology subtitle, followed by the analysis and findings subtitle. Lastly
comes the conclusion and recommendations. At the bottom of the article is the references. This is
a reliable source because it includes many charts and graphs of their research findings. They also
give many statistics regarding their survey. Below the references is an About the Authors
section. This allows the reader to understand who the authors are. This also makes it a very
reliable source to use.

This source gives information on what construction managers do, their area of work, their
salary, and how to become a construction manager. It gives a clear list of all the duties of a
construction manager. It shows a chart of their work environment. A couple that were stated were

specialty trade contractors and residential building construction. It then explains how one can
become a construction manager. It shows the education, training, work experience, and qualities
needed. Under each of these categories is a thorough explanation of what is specifically needed
in regards to what type of college degree, the experience needed, and the specific training. Then
is shows the salary of a construction manager. It shows a chart of the different positions and their
average salaries. It also gives a list of similar careers. This is helpful because those looking at
this career can get some ideas about different jobs that are available that are similar.
This is a reliable source. It is a government website. It is a website that is very easy to
access. It is set up with nine different tabs at the top of the page. This allows for easy access
through the different topics they explain. These tabs allow the person exploring the site to find
the exact topic they were looking for to get accurate information. This would be an appropriate
site to look at for a general outlook on what the construction management discourse community
is. The information given is helpful to someone that is just starting their research on construction
management as an occupation. The last tab on the website offers more information. When
clicking on this tab there are different links to go to to get more information about about
construction management.

This video has many different people that work in the construction management field.
The first person that is introduced is Morgan Green and he is the CEO of Green Construction
INC. He is in charge of making sure all the departments are working together properly. The
second person to speak was Michael Allison. He is the Quality Control Manager for Big-D
Construction. He described his position to be supporting teams with the quality aspects of their
projects. They continue to introduce five more people with five different positions. It shows the
variety of jobs and work available in the construction management field, from working on the
construction site to working in an office. It allows students that are interested in the field to see
first hand what some of the different positions are that are available and to hear from people
working in those positions exactly what they do for a living.
This video is a youtube video. It was uploaded by Weber State University. It is found
online. The webpage has the video centered vertically to the left of the page. On the right there is
a list of videos that may interest the viewer or are similar to the video you are currently
watching. Under the video there is a description box where the uploader can give a short
summary of the video. At the top of the page is a search bar where one can search for more
videos. This is a reliable source because it is uploaded by Weber State University. Another reason
that it is a reliable source is that the people they have speaking in the video are real people that
work in the field of construction management.
