Reflections and Insights

This week I met with the newspaper students to discuss our next
submissions to the Windsor Journal. The students were torn between
two articles that they wanted to submit, so I decided to try and
submit both. Currently our arrangement with the Windsor Journal is
for one submission a month, but since April was a busy month with
spring break and assemblies during our newspaper meeting times,
we were unable to procure an April submission or an April paper. As
a result, we will have two papers in the month of May. I would
ultimately like to get to a place where we submit to the Windsor
Journal on a weekly basis. I would also like to get to a place where
our submissions make it to one of the major state papers, The
Hartford Courant.
I met with my assistant principal to discuss the logistics of this
project which included reviewing the pre-assessment form, timeline
for activities, who would be involved and how she could be support
me in this endeavor. She was already well aware of my project
because we had met when I needed to pre-register for the class to
discuss all of this, but since more than a month had passed it was
worthwhile to sit down and discuss everything.
Finally, this week I went to a professional development on leadership
run by my district. In Connecticut, we are required to take an
administrators test as the culminating part of our 092 course work
called the CAT (Connecticut Administrators Test). This four hour PD
was a review of scenarios that could be simulated on the exam. This
ties in to everything that we are discussing with regards to the ISLLC
standards, because in order to be successful in analyzing the
scenarios, one needs to demonstrate how a school administrator
identifies the relationship between the case study and the ISLLC
standard. The student needs to demonstrate an understanding of
the connection between theory and practice.
