Complete the following required testing (or equivalent testing administered in another state):
Have completed three semester hours of credit in a course of study regarding parental involvement and
family engagement; and have completed a program of preparation to teach such pupils that is approved
by the board; or hold a license to teach such pupils that was issued by another state and approved by the
commission; or hold an Elementary license, a secondary license, or a license to teach middle school or
junior high school education, that is endorsed with a major in child care
Have completed at least thirty-five semester hours of courses in early childhood education for children
who are developing.
Three semester hours in family and community relations, including working with families; and three
semester hours in assessment and evaluation for early childhood education; and except as otherwise
provided in this paragraph, eight semester hours of student teaching involving pupils in at least two
different age groups, one of which must have included pupils in the first or second grade and one of
which must have included pupils of any age from birth through kindergarten.
Complete the following required testing (or equivalent testing administered in another state):
Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and have completed,
pursuant to the provisions of NAC 391.095, a program of preparation for teaching in the
elementary grades which is approved by the Board.
3 semester hours of credit in education or curricular adaptation for pupils with disabilities; AND
3 semester hours of credit in a course of study regarding parental involvement and family
engagement.
Substitute teacher
To qualify for a license to substitute teach in
kindergarten through twelfth grade, a person must:
Hold a license for the level of education in which the program is offered;
and
B. Assessment of gifted and talented pupils and programs for such pupils;
Reading Specialist
To receive an endorsement as a reading specialist, a person must:
A. Foundations of reading;
D. Research in reading.
Art Specialist
To receive an endorsement to teach art, a person must:
Have completed:
Have a valid elementary, middle school or junior high school, secondary or special
teaching license, (excluding a business and industry license)
Have completed a program for school library media specialists which has been
approved by the Board or a regional accrediting association; or hold a masters or more
advanced degree in library science, with specialization in school librarianship, from a
school accredited by the American Library Association; or have completed twenty-one
(21) semester credits to include coursework in each of following subjects:
Complete the following required testing (or equivalent testing administered in another state):
Hold a bachelors degree, and have completed 3 semester credits in a course of study regarding
parental involvement and family engagement, and have completed an approved program of
preparation for teaching physical education in kindergarten through grade 12; or have completed 42
semester credits which must include course work in each of the following:
Anatomical Kinesiology or Mechanical Kinesiology, or both; The Physiology of Exercise; Testing and measuring
the skill and ability of a pupil in physical education; The psychological or social aspects of physical education,
or both; Motor learning or motor development; Adapted physical education; Movement activities for pupils in
preschool and primary grades; Movement activities for pupils in intermediate grades; Advanced first aid or an
equivalent course of study; and; Methods and techniques of teaching in each of the following areas: Physical
fitness, Team sports, Rhythms and dance or rhythmic activities for pupils in elementary school, and Individual
sports
Foundations of Education; Methods of teaching Physical Education in elementary and secondary grades ; 8
credits of student teaching in a composite program which must be split between elementary and secondary
grade levels. All 8 credits of student teaching could be completed at the middle school or junior high school
level (6-8) and meet the K-12 requirement.
Music Specialist
To receive an endorsement to teach music, a person must:
Complete the following required testing (or equivalent testing administered in another state):
Hold a bachelors degree; and have completed 3 semester credits in a course of study regarding
parental involvement and family engagement; and have completed a program for teaching music
approved by the Board
Or
Music Theory; The History or Literature of Music; Applied Music, including an area of
specialization in Vocal or Instrumental Music; Conducting; Techniques for Brass, Woodwind,
Percussion, Piano and String Instruments; Diction or Vocal Techniques and Pedagogy; and
Music Ensemble.
Hold an elementary, middle school/junior high, secondary or special license and have
completed:
A program which has been approved by the Board for teaching computer-based applications
Or
Productivity tools such as word processing, databases and spreadsheets; Communication tools;
Research tools; Multimedia tools; or Other applications approved by the Board.
School Counselor
To receive an endorsement as a school counselor, a person must:
Complete the following required testing (or equivalent testing administered in another state):
Complete 3 semester credits in a course of study regarding parental involvement and family
engagement, and must hold a masters or more advanced degree in school counseling; or must
hold a specialty credential as a National Certified School Counselor issued by the National Board for
Certified Counselors; or must hold a masters or more advanced degree with a major in counseling
conferred by a regionally accredited college or university and meet the additional requirements
noted below; or must hold a masters or more advanced degree conferred by a regionally
accredited college or university and have at least two (2) years of teaching experience or at least
two (2) years of school counseling experience and meet the additional requirements noted below.
Additional requirements:
Must have at least 2 years of teaching experience or at least 2 years of school counseling Experience;
Must have completed 600 hours of a school counseling practicum, internship or field experience in
grades K-12; Must have completed 36 semester graduate credits in school guidance and counseling
School Psychologist
To receive an endorsement as a school psychologist, a person must:
