Introduction
Manypeoplearoundtheworldhavemadecompromisesregardingtheirculture
andarenotclosetowhattheywerealongtimeago.Oneofthemajorculturesthatisnot
widelyacknowledgedistheoriginalpeopleoftheUnitedStates.Thepresenceof
AmericanIndianshasfaded,physicallyandculturally.Thewaytheyareviewedhas
changedovertime,toalmostnotviewedatall,meaningmanythinkIndiansaredead/
extinct.Theidentityofbeingnativehasshrunkenquitesignificantlysince1492,thefirst
Europeancontact.TheU.Sgovernmentthatlaterformedismostresponsibleforthe
dwindlingchangeofAmericanIndiansandtheirculturalidentity.Varioustribeshavelost
muchoftheirculture,andmanylanguagesarelostforever.ThewayNativesview
themselvestodayhaschangedtremendously.BeinganAmericanIndian,Ihavefeltthe
distancebetweenthatcultureandtheculturewehavetoday.Whathashappenedthat
causedthisdisconnectionthatsomedon'tevenacknowledgenativesortheconditionsin
whichmanylive?Whyhavehistoryclassesnottaughtabouttheindigenouspeoplesof
theAmericas,especiallyNorthAmerica?Whatwerethemajorcausesthatledtothe
decreaseinAmericanIndianpopulationandculturalidentity?CanwhattheUS
governmentdidintheearlydaysofcolonizationtoatleastthelate1900'sconsidered
genocideontheoriginalpeoples?Whataretheeffectsshowntodayoftheseactions?

audienceanddefendmyargument.Iwillincludea
discussiontoinvolvetheotherpeopleinmy
presentation.
