Whole-Class Brainstorm: What is respect? What does it mean to be respectful? And how can we show respect to one another?

Commented [K1]: 4.1 and 4.4 Whole-class brainstorm of

each students own interpretation of the word Respect.
Students collaborated ideas using the Think-Pair-Share
teaching strategy in order to share, respond to and analyse
fellow peer interpretations. This activity and relevant themes
explored all act to foster creativity and imagination in the
classroom, overall contributing towards a more secure,
welcoming learning environment.

Students work examples:

Commented [K2]: 4.4 The posters that students created

were unique in all aspects of their design, colours and
wording. Using these posters as a visual display placed
around the entrance of the classroom (as shown), this acts to
establish a welcoming environment for all school community
members, as well as outlines immediately to everyone our
united views of how we should treat one another at all times
in everyday life, particularly in the classroom setting.

Teacher Feedback:

Commented [K3]: 4.1 The feedback highlights the use of

positive reinforcement as a means to encourage
participation and engagement from all class members.
Accepting all student responses such as tell the truth or
dont lie and prompting students with other, more
positive, ways to interpret what they are trying to say, be
honest. This challenges students thinking in an open-ended
task where rather than having one-specific answer, there are
multiple-plausible solutions.
This lesson about respect also enacts to reinforce the
classroom rules and expectations in providing for a safe and
secure learning environment.
