Promoted to Principal at a 600 student inner city middle school with a largely
Latino population
Secured and leveraged funding to support academic and enrichment
programs, including the SB65 Federal Program, Mayors Criminal Justice
Council funding, 21st Century, and private funds for school uniform
procurement, and a school wide reading program
Implemented a grade level specific curriculum planning process and
initiated a school wide writing and reading assessment tool to guide
instructional planning.
Managed an annual budget of $600,000.
Provided instructional leadership and management to a 55 member staff of
teachers, administrators and support staff.
Developed a rapport with Community Leaders, families, Youth, and
Institutions to create links between school and community.
Maintain connections with students through teaching a daily reading class,
counseling, mentoring and taking youth on outings.
Implemented several schoolwide programs, including an African American
Task Force, a schoolwide Promote Peace curriculum, Urban Systemic
Initiative for Math, Science and Technology.
School Site Management including oversight of $4.5 million renovation
project of the 156,000 square foot building
Significantly decreased suspension and expulsion rate by aligning school
wide expectation between teachers, students, parents and counselors.

Selected to be member of the Math in Common(MIC) California Initiative to
support 10 school Districts in Implementation of Common Core, funded by
Betchel Foundation, 2013-14.
Spent two weeks, June 2012, engaged in intensive study focused on using
elements of Japanese curriculum and instruction along with lesson study to
support teachers implementation of mathematical ideas embedded in the
Common Core State Standards.
Presented at the National Coalition on Community Schools pre-forum on
Leadership, Effective Professional Learning and Evaluation for Principals (in
community schools), April 2014, Cincinnati, Ohio
Invited to co-present at AERA in 2005 and 2006 documenting the work of Novice
Administrators. Paper called "Induction of Urban School Administrators: High
Need and High Time for a Theory of Action"
