oneofthehardestlanguagestolearn,withmanycomplicatedrules.Speciallessonplanswould
bethebestwaytohelpthem.

Observeateacherduringatypicallesson.Writeasummaryofwhatdifferenttechniquesthe
teacherusesandwhetherornotyoubelievetheywereeffectivefortheclass.

Whileobservingmyteachertheentireyearinoticedthewayhehandledtheclassroom.Hewas
veryvocalandaleadertowardsthem.Hetreatedallofthestudentsthesameway.Timeshehad
tobetoughandtimeshehadtobekind.Hehandledbothofthesesituationsperfectlyandwas
abletoalwaysknowwhentobetoughandwhentobecalm.Ibelievehiswayofteachingwas
veryeffective.Overtheyearinoticedthatthekidswereadvancingoverthemonths.

CreatingAssessment
Createaformalorinformalassessmentforyourclass.Thiscanbeanytypeofassessment.

BeforeIhadleftmynormal5thgradeclassroomihadassessedthem.Duringtheyearihad
noticedthatoverallthesekidshadbehavedverywell.Theyhadneverhadmuchtroubleor
distractions.Yestheywillhavefunandbegoofylikenormalkidsbuttheywerecalmand
respectfultherestofthetime.Overallthesekidsbehavedgreat,Ihopethatifandwheni
becomeateacheralotofmystudentswillactlikethem.

PortfolioActivity:InvolvingParents

Thepurposeofthisactivityistohelpyoustartthinkingabouthowyoucaninvolveparentsin
theirchildrenseducation.Writeatwopagedescriptionofyourphilosophywithrespectto
parentalinvolvementinyourclassroom.Includeinthedescriptionatleastfoursuggestions
forinvolvingparents.

Ibelievethatabigpartofchildren'slearningisnotonlytheteacherbutalsoparentsareabig
influence.Forastudenttoseeaparenthelpingthewhentheyneedit.Isveryinspiring.Iknow
frompersonalexperienceicouldalwayscountonmyparentstohelpinhomeworkwheneveri
couldnotfigureoutthehomeworkbymyself.Whichwasveryrewardingforme.Soibelieve
thatparentsshouldbeactiveinhelpingtheirchildrenanychancetheycan.
