ECOZONES
Halifax is located in the Atlantic Maritime ecozone
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I are all located in the Atlantic Maritime
ecozone

CLIMATE
The annual temperature range in Halifax is 37C

Average annual temperature is 7.7C

In the Atlantic Maritime ecozone, the temperature ranges from -5C to 14C

There are cooler summers and warmer winters due to the surrounding Atlantic ocean

AND WARMER WINTERS DUE TO THE SURROUNDING
ATLANTIC OCEAN

Ecozone rainfall = 900mm/year inland and
over 1500mm/year on the coast

Atlantic Maritime has more storms than anywhere else in Canada

Most of Halifaxs precipitation falls in winter

MIXED FOREST NATURAL VEGETATION

SOIL

The Mixed Forest region has deep grey-brown


topsoil which is rich in minerals
Although most soil in Halifax is naturally acidic,
low in organic matter and infertile, the city does
have farm land that grows high quality crops
The most productive soil in Halifax is sandy loam
because the high levels of precipitation that it
gets are very important for the development of
crops
Atlantic Maritime ecozone has a large amount of
coniferous trees which are grown in moist soils
This region also consists of igneous and
sedimentary bedrock

VEGETATION
Halifax and its ecozone is found in the Mixed Forest natural vegetation
region
The Mixed Forest region is known for its deciduous trees such as Spruce
trees and its Coniferous trees such as Maple and Oak trees
Blue shades, Orchids, Roses, Casa Blancas and Citrus are all examples
of greenery in Halifax

The Wooden Monkey (restaurant)
The Bicycle Thief (restaurant)

In 2014, the unemployment rate was 6.6%

Current jobs in demand include teachers, guest service leaders, tech

Number of art galleries, theatres and museums, national-quality sports


and entertainment facilities are local cultural industries
