INTRODUCTION

Thesis
Through analysis of the three articles conceptual operationalization, it is observed
that scholarly articles express a more persuasive and authoritative effect as
exhibited by distinctive moves amongst structure, ethos, and logos over pop-culture
articles.

BODY PARAGRAPH II

Main Point
Evaluates Nicole Mardirosian-Brocailles psychological article and her conceptual
operationalization. She studies the two concepts of an individuals self-efficacy and
motivation, and how it is affected from weight-loss television shows like The Biggest
Loser (TBL).
How/Why It Supports Argument
Provides her conceptual operationalization to briefly overview the purpose of her
scholarly article, which can initiate my argument on how she uses her moves in a
more persuasive way than pop-culture articles.

BODY PARAGRAPH III

Main Point
Evaluates Halls biological focus and his conceptual operationalization in his article.
He mainly focuses on the analysis of internal bodily processes of specific diet and
exercise used in TBL.
How/Why It Supports Argument
Even though this scholarly article differs disciplines from Brocailles article, it
represents how most scholarly authors use applicable moves to persuasively
communicate their analysis than pop-culture authors.

BODY PARAGRAPH IV

Main Point
Conveys that Michelle Broder Van Dykes pop-culture article does not operationalize
concepts, and rather summarizes results from other various sources to portray her side
of argument.
How/Why It Supports Argument
Represents that analysis and results in scholarly articles are more convincing to an
audience than pop-culture articles, as pop-culture articles are more summaries of
results.

BODY PARAGRAPH V

Main Point
Introduces analysis of authors choice of moves in their articles for a persuasive
effect. Focuses on the shared convention of IMRAD structure in scholarly articles,

and how Hall and Brocaille implement moves (heading/subheading) to lightly modify
the structure of their article.
How/Why It Supports Argument
Through this analysis, knowing how a text was written can help explain why an
author makes certain moves to persuade their targeted audience.

BODY PARAGRAPH VI

Main Point
Pop-culture articles are created for the general public, so the author has implemented
a move to structure her article by dividing various studies results into short
paragraphs.
How/Why It Supports Argument
Looking at the structure of scholarly articles and the pop-culture culture, we can agree
that the authors use of formal headings displays more academic authority than an
authors overview of randomized information, divided into paragraphs.

BODY PARAGRAPH VII

Main Point
Scholarly articles are shown more persuasive by the authors incorporation of logos,
evidently shown by Hall and Brocaille
How/Why It Supports Argument
Scholarly writers use of logos increases the authority of their article based on the
methodical evidence from their conducted research.

BODY PARAGRAPH VIII

Main Point
Focuses on Dykes attempt of including logos and her low effectiveness by including
other statistical data from other researchers.
How/Why It Supports Argument
The incorporation of negative statistical results from other research articles on the
negative impacts of TBL steers her pop-culture article to contain a sense of biased
opinion, which overall reduces the level of factual context.

BODY PARAGRAPH IX

Main Point
Observe how Hall and Brocailles use specific moves to effectively enhance
credibility of their scholarly article.
How/Why It Supports Argument
Scholarly articles show stronger ethos than pop-culture article, which highlights their
higher effect of persuasion.

BODY PARAGRAPH X

Main Point
Examines the dependability of Dykes implied ethos in her pop-culture article, and
how it has a lower reliability effect than Hall and Brocailles articles.
How/Why It Supports Argument
The general freedom in writing a pop-culture article can be based off subjective
opinion, which can completely demean the articles credibility.

MAJOR STRUCTURAL CHANGES FROM INITIAL SUBMISSION

I had to completely rewrite my Writing Project 2, and made extreme structural changes from
my initial submission. Firstly, I did not have a main argument or narrow thesis statement and
absolutely rambled on about unnecessary analysis in my body paragraphs. So I chose an
argument on how scholarly articles show more persuasion through an authors choice of
moves towards an audience. From rewriting my writing project 1, it helped me structure my
paragraphs into specific ideas again. I stated the three articles conceptual operationalization,
and then went into analysis of each authors moves and efficiency based on their article
structure, ethos, and pathos.

HOW & WHY REVERSE OUTLING HELPED TO RE-SEE WORK

Reverse outlining was extremely beneficial as it guided me to re-see my Writing Project 2,
and relate each paragraph back to my thesis statement. I was able to write efficient topic
sentences, and organize my paper appropriately and smoothly.
