The education program at West Chester University has supplied me with a variety of experiences within the classroom
and I believe that I am well prepared to take on any class and any grade. The most beneficial experience was student
teaching in a second grade class at Fern Hill Elementary School. During this time, I planned lessons in all subjects and
achieved high student engagement levels through the integration of technology and hands-on learning. Every student
received a unique learning experience by differentiating lessons for skill levels, learning styles, English language
learners, IEPs, 504s, cultural background and socioeconomic status. I implemented a variety of assessments to provide
evidence of student growth and learning. I then analyzed the assessments to aid in the report card process and
contribute at parent teacher conferences. I partook in professional development opportunities by attending workshops
and participating in a professional learning community on a weekly basis where I collaborated with experienced
teachers. I also had the pleasure of teaching children of all ages after school in Science Explorers, a club that meets
twice a week to learn about the world through inquiry and exploration.
During my student teaching process, I proved my capability as a teacher and was offered a long-term substitute position
in the same second grade class. I was able to make the transition seamless for the students and parents by upholding
classroom routines and curriculum standards. I also had open communication with parents and my co-operating teacher.
I proved my capability again and was offered the building substitute position at Fern Hill Elementary school. As a building
substitute, I had the pleasure of teaching a variety of grades, kindergarten to fifth grade. These experiences I have
gained has made me a more diverse teacher and has also supplied me with many tools for my future classroom.
Please review my attached resume for additional details regarding my skills and qualifications. My schedule is flexible if
you would like to meet with me at any time about the information you have read and my application. Thank you for your
time and consideration for this position.
Sincerely,
Sherri Boisselle
