The word parts usually indicate the part of the body involved. Wood roots plus a
vowel added to the end. This form is used when connecting word roots or when the
word root is joined to a suffix that begins with a consonant. The root word contains
the basic meaning of the term. A suffix is a word part that is added to the end of a
word to complete that term. A prefix is added to the beginning of a word to
influence the meaning of that term . Frequently, there is more than one correct
way to pronounce a medical term . Accuracy in spelling medical terms is
extremely important. Changing just one or two letters can completely change the
meaning of a word. The difference literally could be a matter of life and death for
the patient.
