Abstract
This paper is intended as a five year professional development plan as a teacher. It includes a
new way of being involved in professional development activities from the year 2017 until the
year 2021. It will also include a reflection as to why I have chosen my three artifacts for domain
six.

A Look Forward

Including a list of your professional goals provides information to the portfolio reviewer
about your future interests and commitment to growth (Constantino & De Lorenzo, 2009, p. 88).
On the last day of my student teaching assignment, one of my master teachers gifted me a card
with some very nice and thoughtful words. Part of those words will forever be engrained in my
mind, the learning never stops. We may be the teachers but there is always new things to
learn, and new ways to grow in. For this reason I have constructed this five year professional
development plan. After each item there is a description or rational as to why I have chosen that
item/activity to be part of my professional development plan.

The 2017 California Language Teachers Association (CLTA) Conference Language Teacher
Education for a World on the Move: Meeting the Needs of Diverse Student Populations: Tenth
International Conference on Language Teacher Education. The 21st century with its ongoing
migration and globalization trends requires new approaches to teacher training. Our selection of
this title aims to address the growing need of training language teachers to address diverse
student populations in an increasingly multilingual world. The mission of this biennial
conference is to address the education of teachers of all languages, at all instructional and
institutional levels, and in all the many national and international contexts in which this takes
place, including: world language teaching; bilingual education; heritage and community
language education; immersion education; indigenous and minority language education; English
as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) instruction; and the teaching of less commonly
taught languages. The conference aims to bring together teacher educators from these many

contexts to discuss and share research, theory, and best practices and to initiate and sustain
meaningful professional dialogue across languages, levels, and settings (CLTA).

Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA). Many master teachers have told me to do
my first year of teaching before doing BTSA because it is a good way of getting my first year our
of the way without any added items. Plus the second year is that much easier than the first,
which is good for BTSA because you feel more comfortable after having a year under your belt
compared to nothing. BTSA is is a state-funded program co-sponsored by the California
Department of Education (CDE) and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The
program engages preliminary credentialed teachers in a job-embedded formative assessment
system of support and professional growth to fulfill the requirements for the California Clear
Multiple Subjects, Single Subject, and Education Specialist credentials. BTSA Induction
programs are locally designed and implemented in accordance with the Standards of quality and
Effectiveness for Professional Teacher Induction Programs and aligned to the California
Standards for the Teaching Profession (State of California, BTSA, 2012).

Attend a College Board Spanish Language and Culture Workshop. College Board only has a
calendar up to March 2017 so I will be continuously looking to see the new calendar with the
workshops for the year 2019. I will then decide to chose a workshop that targets new teachers
since this will only be my 2nd year teaching.

Attend A Workshop from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. I am still
undecided as to which workshop I would want to attend, but I am down to Integrating Skills and
Modes for Curriculum Design and The Role of Grammar in the Development of Proficiency.
The first workshop focuses on how to build a curriculum that is designed to keep students
making steady progress in terms of overall proficiency[the workshop will be customized] to
focus on achieving Intermediate, Advanced, or Superior levels of proficiency in various skills
(Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening) and modes (Interpersonal, Presentational,
Interpretive) depending on the needs and aims of your program, faculty and students. The
integration of Study Abroad experiences into the program of study will also be considered
(ACTFL). The second workshop focuses on how to approach grammar from a functional,
proficiency-oriented perspective. After exploring a framework for addressing grammar
functionally, participants will be guided through hands-on activities to evaluate their existing
materials, retying the treatment of grammar inside individual courses and across the curriculum,
and design activities intended to help student acquire grammatical structures at various levels of
proficiency (ACTFL). Both of these workshop would be of great benefit to me as a teacher
because it provides resources and skills that I could not otherwise acquire. It also provides an
opportunity to socialize and congregate with other educators aside from the ones at my local
place of employment.

Renew Teaching Credential. This will be my first time going through the renewal process for my
California Single Subject teaching credential. I will need to do a lot of research to find out what

documentation I need and if there is any other professional development requirements for me to
successfully renew my Single Subject Teaching Credential. Once I get my Clear Single Subject
Teaching credential I will be able to continue my career and my professional development. The
best website to obtain any and all information needed for the credential renewing process is
