Abstract: Urdu Ghazal has been popular because of its suggestive expression. This particular
expressive mode of this genre is called "Magical World". When the one-layered expression of natural
poetry was established in colonial era under the influence of foreign discourse, the poets transformed the
traditional characters and system of values of this genre according to their needs in order to perform their
literary duties avoiding the imperial oppression. But, ironically the traces literary anarchy were blamed to be
present in this genre when it was viewed by using the critical parameters introduced by the colonial
discourse and a conspiracy was hatched to put an end to Ghazal for its assumed irrelevance with the
prevailing socio-political environment. This research paper highlights the camouflaged meaningfulness and
modern associations of the characters, values and customs of ghazal in the said period so that the special
code system of ghazal having colonial perspective may be understood and its true interpretive mode could
be brought forward.

The Research services of Urdu Dictionary Board Regarding Urdu Lexicography

Abstract:
"Urdu Development Board" was established in 1958 through a Resolution of the Ministry of Education,
Government of Pakistan, dated 14th of June, 1958, which stated that the Board would compile and publish
a comprehensive dictionary of Urdu on historical principles, on the pattern of Greater Oxford Dictionary
and will take steps for the development of Urdu Language and Literature.It was renamed "Urdu Dictionary
Board" through a resolation of Ministery of Education in 1982 .The Board under the supervission of
different Scholars of Urdu completed this very difficult job just in 51 years by compiling 22 volums of Urdu
Lughat .In this paper the research services of Urdu Dictionary Board are presented.

it'.He began work on Lughat-e-kabeer or The Grand
Urdu Dictionary in 1930 - which was published quite
later, and, that too, incompletely - and wrote in its
foreword that the job of a lexicographer is to record
and register the language, its usage and the
hanges it goes through. A lexicographer, he wrote,
cannot be given the licence to decide which word is

correct or good or is to be retained and entered in
the dictionary and which one is to be labelled
incorrect or bad and is to be consigned to the
graveyard. The most comprehensive dictionary of
Urdu, he wrote, would record each and every word
of the language, whether archaicor obsolete,
offensive or derogatory, technical or poetic, dated
or modern." 11
