– total way of life and thinking patterns that are passes
from generation to generation
-include beliefs, language, ritual, politic, economic
system, technology and others.
One of the most influential cultural elements
is language.

Every language serve as vehicle of the culture


of the people who speak that language.

There are interrelations between language


and culture.
Language influences our culture and even our
thought processes.

Language is spoken depends on the social


situation.

This same phenomenon is often found in


societies with different dialects depending on
the person they are talking to at the time.
There are no primitive languages.

All language have a system of sounds, words


and sentences that can adequately
communicate the content of culture.

Culture that have more complex, diverse


economies and advanced technologies have
larger vocabularies.
All languages change through time-none is
static.

This is because every language can create


new words to describe new situations and
objects.

Some nations strongly resist the acquisition of


new words from other languages.
As the environment changes, culture and
language typically respond by creating new
terminology to describe it.

The terminology used by a culture primarily


reflects that culture’s interest and concerns.

The cultural environment that people grow


up in can have surprising effects on how they
interpret the world around them.
Language expresses:
- the thinking patterns of a culture, what is
important and what is not important to a
particular culture can be ascertained by what
it present and what is not present in its
language.

The words of the language are merely


concepts reflecting the culture from which it is
derived.
