Branksome Hall Science

Grade 9 (SNC1D) Outline

Teachers:
Oksana Jajecznyk, David Mindorff, Roberta Parkes, Magda Pop

Course Description
This course enables students to understand basic concepts in biology, chemistry,
physics, and earth and space science. They will develop skills in the processes of
scientific inquiry, and relate science to technology, society, and the environment.
The Grade 9 course consists of four strands. These strands are continued in the
Grade 10 course. The strands are as follows:
• Unit 1: Chemistry – Atoms and Elements
• Unit 2: Physics – Characteristics of Electricity
• Unit 3: Biology – Reproduction
• Unit 4: Earth and Space Science – The Study of the Universe

Assessment and Evaluation

Students will be assessed in two areas. These are achievement of expectations
and learning responsibility.

Achievement of Expectations
This is detailed on the reverse of this page.

Learning Responsibility
The learning responsibility mark will be reported as a letter grade. The categories
for assessing learning responsibility are: independence, teamwork, organization,
work habits and initiative.
