INSTALLATION AND SET-UP

As you install and set-up your HSSA Track Mounted Heat-Seal Machine, refer to the figures and diagrams shown for a visual explanation of the steps involved in set-up.

CBBCJtI.G YOUR OROP

The HSSA Track Mounted Heat-Seal Machine includes:

Separate Machine Parts

• 1 - Line Cord

• 1 - Air Hose

• 1 - Air Filter

• 1 - Rotation Cont.rol Handle

• 1 - Rail Base Assembly

• 1 - Mending Patch Tray Assembly

Unpackaging and setting up the machine:

1. Have a sturdy work table ready to set the machine up on.

2. Place the Rail Base Asseml:lly in the desired location whe.re the machine is going to be set up. (The front of the base has spring hooks, which attach the teflon cover over the sponge platen.)

3. Remove all pack.aging materials and tip the head to the upright position lifting on the machine case only. Lift the head up and place it on t.he table behind the base.

4. The machine must be slightly dismantled to attach it to the rail base. Refer to the figures when following the instructions below.

1-2

• Remove four .screws from the mounting bracket and remove washer and bracket w/handles so that machine can be placed on rail base. (Figure 1-2)

5. Replace bracket w/handles and roller washer with four screws and washers as shown in Figure 1-4. Make sure both roller shafts protroud through bracket holes. This might require upward pressure under front of housing.

6. Assemble the rotating handle onto the handle bracket.

Place the finger guard with the attached spacers below the guard between the handle and the bracket. Insert the screw w/lockwasher through the bottom of the handle bracket and tighten down. (Figure 1-4)

7. Install the air filter making sure the drain on the bowl of the filter is facing down. (Figure 1-4)

8. Connect the machine electrical cord into the back of the machine and then plug the machine into a source of 110 Volt, 7.5 amps or 220 Volt, 3.7 amps.

9. Connect the air hose to the air filter (located at the right rear of the machine) by pushing the receptacle firmly into the air inlet.

The line pressure should be a minimum of 80 psi. (5.9 Bars).

To confirm that air pressure is correct, check the gauge on the front of the machine. It should register about 55 psi. The check air pressure light will be lit if there is insufficient pressure. If the setting is incorrect for your process, see "Setting Air Pressure" (Page 2-7).

1-5

10. Assemble the Mending Patch Tray onto the Rail Base as shown in Figure 1-9. The figure shows an exploded view of the parts for the tray. The list below the figure (Figure 1-9a), explains what each part is.

MACHINE OPERATION

BBFORB YOU BBOIN

Before mending and sealing with your HSSA machine, make sure you have completed all instructions for installation as listed in section 1.

This includes:

• Mounting the machine on the Rail Base Assembly.

• connecting the positioning and rotating handles on the machine.

• Supplying air and electricity to the machine and turning the machine on.

Also, make sure you understand the features and messages of the sealer panel, see "Sealer Panel" on page 2-2.

When you begin mending, the red indicator light on the sealer panel should show "Ready" and the te.mperature and time settings should show those required for your materials.

If you need to change the settings, see "Setting unit Temperature" later in this section.

PRODUCTION COUNTER

There are two visual display cou.nters on the HS5A Track Mounted Heat Seal machine, one for tracking DAILY production and one for CONTINtJOUS productio.n coun.ting of the number of sealing operations. Both counters are displayed using the standard heat sealer fro.nt panel lighted numbers. The TIME segment identifies what counter is .being displayed. The HEAT segment displays the production count.

The DAILY production counter shows the number of seals made since the m.achine was last powered-up.

The CONTINUOUS counter shows the number of seals .made since the machine was installed.

Counter operation

The machine will power up to the last display setting made before power off. Press the ARROW UP and ARROW DOWN switch to alternate between seal time, Cl, C2 and C3 to display the following .• :

SEAL TIME Time sealer is down when seal process is started

C1 Daily production 0000 - 9999

C2 Continuous Production count FIRST 4 digits 0000 - 9999

C3 continuous Production count LAST 4 digits 0000 - 9999

Exa.mple of CONTINUOUS count: C2 = 0177

Production count ~ 01,774,099

The machine will stay in the display mode selected until one of the arrow switches is pressed or the SEAL TIME is changed (set TIME + arrow) .

03 = 4099

Clearing Counters

The DAILY production counter will automatically clear to zero on power-up. The CONTINUOUS counter is reset at the factory and can only be cleared in the field by Thermopatch personnel.

The DAILY production count can be cleared to zero without turning the unit of f by sett i ng the sys te.m to the I 01 ' display mode and pressing the SET TIME and SET HEAT front panel switches both at the same time. The DAILY production count will be at zero when the switches are

counters Off

To return to the TIME and HEAT display rather than counter, press the ARROW UP or ARROW DOWN switch until the segments display time and heat values as normal.

The counters will continue to advance regardless of what is being displayed. Counters can be examined periodically and the display returned to TIME and HEAT display by operator choice.

RUNNING THB MACHINB

Mending/ Heat Sealing

1. Make sure you have followed the instruction described in "Before You Begin" on page 2-1 and understand the features and m.essages on the sealer panel.

2. Test the Touch Safety Guard. Instructions are shown on the label on the top right side of the machine and on Page 1-8.

3. Place the items to be mended over the lower platen.

Press both green buttons at the same time and keep them depressed until the upper iron touches the lower platen. This locks in and starts the heat sealing cycle. The iron will stay down for the displayed time, after which the iron rises to its resting position.

4. ALWAYS keep hands clear of the iron. It is HOT and the high pressure. during the heat sealing cycle can cause severe injury.

5. To abort the heat sealing cycle press the red EMERGENCY STOP button. The iron will rise, and the machine will not be able to be run.

To use the machine after tbe EMERGENCY' STOP button bas been pressed, it is necessary to disengage the button by turning it a quarter turn clockwise (t.he direction of the arrows on the button.)

2-5

6. After running a few cycles you may notice adjustments are needed.

For time, temperature, pressure adjustments see below and Page 1-7 to 1-8.

MAINTENANCE

The mach.ine requires periodic cleaning of several items:

• The lower teflon platen should be cleaned with a soft, clean cloth to keep dirt off of garments. If it becomes cracked or the rubber platen under it becomes compressed or cracked they need replacement. (See page 4-9)

• Ma.intain a filtered air supply. Check the air filter daily. Drain, if needed, by pushing up on th.e button a.t the bottom of the filter bowl.

• It is advised to use an air gun to blow lint and dirt off the machine.

• Wipe the teflon shield, covering the upper iron, with a soft, dry cloth. Replace teflon when it becomes scratched or torn. (See page 4-2)

For any replacement parts refer to section 4 for part nU.mbers.
