Evaluate the performance of the two main actors in the film (Woody Allen as Alvy and Diane
Keaton as Annie). Rate the actors on a scale from 1-5 in each category (1 = Weakest
Performance; 5 = Strongest Performance) and briefly explain why you feel that way using
specific examples from the film. Each category should be rated and explained for both actors.

Remember, focus on the ACTING not the CHARACTER. I want to know what you think of
Allen and Keaton, not Alvy and Annie.

1. Appropriateness. Is the actor’s performance natural? Does he or she look and act like
the character he or she portrays-in his/her physical appearance, facial expressions,
speech, movement, and gestures?

2. Inherent thoughtfulness or emotionality. Does the actor effectively convey the though
processes or feelings behind the character’s actions or reaction?

3. Expressive Coherence. Has the actor use appropriateness and inherent

thoughtfulness/emotionality to create a characterization that meshes with the setting,
costuming, and behavior? Is he or she playing in character?

4. Wholeness and unity. Despite all the challenges of shooting a film, has the actor
maintained the illusion of a seamless character, even if that character is purposely
consumed by contradictions?

5. Effortlessness. Does the acting seem effortless or natural?
