Dear Madame/Sir:
My course work includes advanced heat transfer, advanced fluid mechanics, thermodynamics,
analytical solution of heat and wave equation, mathematics of finite element method and finite volume
method.
I am also taking a course in Micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) design in which my team is
designing a device based on a recently patented concept that can utilize waste heat and convert it to
electricity. We will develop a model that allows performance of parametric analysis of the design and
utilize FEA and CFD tools. This is intended to be manufactured using fabrication techniques common
in the semiconductor industry. See http://www-personal. umich. edu/~vineetm/MEMSengine. html
I had taken a course called analytical product development last semester, in which my team developed
a wind powered water pumping system. As part of the design process, we brainstormed various
concepts, performed reverse engineering on similar products, modeled the manufacturing cost, and
performed a marketing survey to assess user preferences. Based on an analysis of the market survey
data and manufacturing cost model, we optimized the design to provide those features which would
make the product most profitable. See http://www-personal. umich. edu/~vineetm/Windpump. html
In my undergraduate senior design project, I conceived, designed and fabricated a manually powered,
low cost pump. See http://www-personal. umich. edu/~vineetm/purpose. html. Such projects boost
my confidence in the scope for innovation in mechanical systems, be it applications as old as pumping
water or emerging fields like MEMS.
I have three years experience as a software engineer. As a module leader, I was responsible for
customer requirements analysis, estimation, project management, design, review, documentation,
testing, quality control, defect prevention and development of software for Fortune 500 clients working
in a global team with members in multiple countries.
Regards,
Vineet Maheshwary
